As has become regular practice in recent weeks, Thursday night means we’re looking for some greyhound action. There are a few meetings for bettors to get stuck into this evening, with racing at Hove, Newcastle, Monmore and Swindon.

Today’s greyhound tips

I’m primarily interested in tonight’s cards at Newcastle, where a couple of dogs stand out. Read below for details on two potential bets, odds allowing.

For clarity, the odds in brackets are the minimum odds to take. If those odds or bigger are available, the dog in question is a bet. If shorter odds are on offer when priced up, there’s no bet. In other words, the minimum odds to take are the lowest possible price that offers value for money based on my own pricing of the race (to 100%).

Tip 1: Westforth Ceejay (take odds of 2/1+)

Race #2 Newcastle @ 18:53

Ahead of the second race at Newcastle this evening, I’m turning to Westforth Ceejay, and not for the first time.

This lad won for me a couple of weeks back, doing it well from the front, and having not got seriously involved in a better race last time out, he should be taken very seriously now dropping back down to A2 level.

For my money, he’s the early pace angle here and if he traps well, he could be away and gone. He’s no stranger to dominating races of this nature, winning two of his last four A2 races.

Trap 2 looks the main danger, but if Westforth Ceejay traps anywhere near like he did when going pillar to post on his penultimate run, he can see off the challenge.

The dog in the black jacket ought to be a decent favourite here and if odds of 2/1 or bigger are available when this is chalked up, I’ll be on.

Tip 2: Swift Gavin (take odds of 15/8+)

Race #9 Newcastle @ 20:54

Jumping forward a couple of hours, I like the look of Swift Gavin, who goes in the 20:54 race at Newcastle.

Hard to fault of late, this dog has run some very good races in defeat. Beaten just a short head last time out, he was a little unlucky, chinned on the line by a dog that had recently run well in A1 company.

This assignment looks a little easier and is thus a great opportunity for him to get what would be a deserved win after a string of solid efforts.

Back in May, he posted a couple of times that would almost certainly be more than enough to take this race, and even if he was a little off those, he’d likely be bang there.

To be honest, I make the inside runner a 7/4 shot in this field, so if you can get 15/8 or bigger, you’ll definitely be taking value for money as far as I’m concerned.

Acca bet & other markets to explore

If the minimum odds quoted above are available when the prices come up, I’ll be dabbling in a little double bet, definitely. Using minimum odds of 2/1 and 15/8, a double would pay 8.64/1. If you can get such odds (or bigger) on the double, then that’ll be a decent bet.
