The first selection Kaleido, finished last of five. Proving once again I can't pick the Tudhope and O'Meara combination at the right time.
Ice Cube's win didn't look likely under Oisin, but the pace collapsed towards the end, and my horse kept rolling. I'm surprised he had enough in the tank to keep finding, as he wasn't totally settled throughout the first few furlongs.
Jordan Electrics 10/1 (0.5pt EW, 3pl) – Hamilton 7.15
At the age of ten, there's every chance that Jordan Electric's winning days are past him. However, at the odds he is showing on Bet365, I will be more than happy to part with a few quid to find out.
On his best days, he would fly home off his current official rating of 84. He hasn't been anywhere near as good as he was in 2024, when he was competitive in very big handicaps, but this track is a good spot for him. If he could bounce back to form, today could be the day.
Lauren Young is a very solid 5lb claimer, and she has been on board Jordan Electrics for his better runs this season, so maybe the relationship between the two is better than that of the other jockeys. Her claim drops his handicap mark to 79, which is 17lbs below his last winning mark, and is 13lbs lower than what he started the season with.
Social Symbol 5/1 (1pt) – Newbury 4.10
At the time of writing, the Godolphin favourite is far too short based on what he has achieved. He could be a much better horse than these, but from what we've seen from his one run, resulting in a win in a four-runner-field, you've got to be in the know or crazy to back him at this price.
I tipped up Sale Shark at Royal Ascot, and he was my initial fancy for this race. He was drawn on the wrong side of the track, but fared best of his group. I'd say his performance could be upgraded, but then I saw Oisin Murphy was riding Agamemnon instead.
The Richard Hughes horse ran in the Norfolk and ran an okay race. Oisin is clearly a better judge of form than I am, so with him thinking that line is better than Sale Shark, surely the horse to be on is Social Symbol.
Social Symbol ran in the same race as Agamemnon, but finished ahead of him and made up a significant amount of ground inside the final 1.5 furlongs. In my opinion, Social Symbol's performance was streets ahead of Hughes' horse, and this extra furlong looks to suit his running style.
