Euro 2024 Bet of the day

After making it five winner on the bounce at Oxford on Tuesday, Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me turn my attention to the European playoffs, and there is one match in particular that appeals to me for goals and cards.

⚽️ Sparta Prague 🇨🇿 vs Galatasaray 🇹🇷

🇪🇺 Europa League

⏰ Thursday 22nd February, 22:00

A week on from their entertaining encounter in Türkiye, Sparta Prague welcome Galatasaray to the Letná Stadium in a fixture that I’m expecting to see goals in once again.

Galatasaray travel to the Czechia capital with a slender advantage, following a 3-2 victory over the reigning Czechia champions in a match that swung back and forth. Despite a bright start for Brian Priske’s side, it was Galatasaray who took the lead in the first half before they got a deserved equalised at the beginning of the second half. Okan Buruk’s men did regain the lead at the hour mark, but a minute after scoring, were reduced to 10 men, and Sparta equalised for a second time just moments after. However, the teams were also level in players not long after, as Sparta were reduced to 10 men themselves, and Mauro Icardi scored in stoppage time to give The Lions a slender but potentially important lead to Prague.

Domestically, both sides come into this clash on the back of wins, as Sparta Prague defeated Slovan Liberec 2-1 at home to remain four points clear of city-rivals Slavia Prague. Meanwhile, Galatasaray won 0-3 away at Ankaragücü, meaning they remain two points clear of rivals Fenerbahçe in what is a pulsating title race in Türkiye.

Bet of the Day

Galatasaray’s matches in Europe this campaign have been great for goals, with Over 2.5 Goals clicking in 10/13 (77%) of them, including in eight of their last nine – and given Over 2.5 Goals landing in 8/11 (73%) of Sparta’s European matches this season, coupled up with the nature of the tie – I’m expecting to see a similarly entertaining and high-scoring second leg between these two in Prague tomorrow night, with the hosts scoring at least once.

To nudge up the price, I’m happy to throw in both sides to be shown a card, a selection that has landed in 24/24 (100%) of the pair’s combined European contests this campaign, with the reverse fixture last week producing seven yellows and two reds.
