Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me head to the Irish top flight, and I’ve highlighted one fixture in particular that I expect to be a low-scorer.

Two clubs separated only by two places in the Irish Premier Division meet at Eamonn Deacy Park on Friday night as fifth-placed Galway plays host to third-placed Waterford in a fixture that I’m keen to oppose goals in.
John Caulfield’s hosts are the second-lowest scorers in the Irish Premier Division, scoring just 18 goals across their opening 22 matches, with nine (50%) of them coming on home soil.
The Tribesmen have failed to score in 11/22 (50%) of their league outings – including in 6/11 (55%) of them in front of their supporters – and face a Waterford defence that’s conceded just 12 goals across their opening 11 road trips, with six (50%) of them coming against second-placed Derry City.
Keith Long’s visitors are the joint second-highest scorers in the Irish top flight, slamming in 33 goals across their opening 23 matches, with just 13 (39%) of them coming on their travels.
The Blues have failed to score in 8/23 (35%) of their league outings – including in four of their previous nine away from home – and may find it difficult to breach a Galway defence that has conceded just 16 goals in the league this season, keeping clean sheets in 11/22 (50%) of their matches, including in five of their last six on home soil.

Galway’s opening 22 fixtures in the Irish top flight are averaging a league-low 1.55 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score – No paying out in a league-high 17 (77%) of them.
What’s more, that goals average drops to 1.36 goals per game when playing at home, with both teams failing to score in 9/11 (82%) of them – and given Both Teams to Score – No has also landed in seven of Waterford’s previous nine league outings on their travels – I’m hoping we see a similarly low-scoring affair to the goalless draw these two sides produced in their last league meeting in April at Waterford.
