With the season beginning to take shape, recent results are only part of the picture. Underlying performances reveal some interesting contrasts, with teams creating opportunities without always getting the rewards their displays deserve, while others continue to show vulnerabilities despite picking up points.

Our latest EFL selections focus on those underlying trends, using home and away records, xG, attacking output and recent match performances to identify where the strongest opportunities might lie.

There is plenty to examine across all three encounters, particularly with several sides showing a marked difference between their results and the chances they are creating.

Cambridge United v Wycombe Wanderers

Cambridge United welcome Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday evening with both sides showing enough attacking promise to make goals at either end a realistic prospect. However, it is the consistency of the corner figures that makes this combined selection particularly appealing.

Cambridge's home matches have averaged 11.6 corners this season, with the hosts responsible for eight of those. That reflects a side capable of sustaining pressure and forcing opposition defences into repeated interventions. Wycombe's away fixtures have produced an average of 11 corners, including 5.75 won by the visitors themselves.

The goals evidence also supports the selection. Both teams have scored in three of Cambridge's four most recent home matches and three of Wycombe's four away fixtures. Across the nine relevant venue matches examined, seven satisfied both parts of our bet.

Cambridge's recent 1-0 victory over Blackpool provides another indication of their attacking threat, even though only one goal resulted. They generated 2.37 xG from 24 shots, including seven on target, and created four big chances while restricting Blackpool to six attempts.

Wycombe's 3-2 victory at Leyton Orient offers a different perspective. They recorded 14 shots and seven on target, demonstrating their ability to contribute offensively away from home.

With the corners requirement met in all nine relevant venue fixtures, the main question is whether both attacks can convert their opportunities. At 37/50, the combined market looks a stronger proposition than backing goals alone.

Blackpool v Milton Keynes Dons

Blackpool's results have been frustrating, but their home matches continue to offer opportunities in the goals and corners markets. Tuesday's meeting with Milton Keynes Dons brings together two teams whose venue statistics suggest another busy evening in both penalty areas.

The Seasiders have gone four matches without a victory, and their recent 1-0 defeat at Cambridge exposed some attacking shortcomings. Blackpool managed just six shots and one on target, producing 1.14 xG despite failing to score.

That performance contrasts sharply with their 4-0 home victory over Peterborough earlier in the campaign. Jordan Williams, Dion Charles, Karoy Anderson and Jerry Yates all scored as Blackpool generated 2.72 xG, demonstrating what their attack can produce when chances are converted.

Their broader home numbers remain encouraging, with averages of 2.30 xG and 1.67 xGA. Both teams have scored in three of their four relevant home fixtures, a record matched by Milton Keynes Dons across their four away matches.

The visitors have conceded an average of 1.40 xGA away from home, while their games have produced 12 corners on average. Blackpool's corresponding figure stands at 11.5, and every match in the eight-game combined venue sample has featured at least eight corners.

Six of those eight fixtures also produced goals for both sides. The defensive vulnerability on display, alongside the consistently high corner counts, makes the combined selection attractive at 4/5, although Blackpool's recent attacking struggles remain the principal concern.

Huddersfield Town v Peterborough United

Peterborough United arrive at Huddersfield Town following another dramatic afternoon, having needed a stoppage-time equaliser to secure a 2-2 draw against Burton Albion on Saturday. Their latest result provides an intriguing backdrop to Tuesday's fixture, where the attacking capabilities of both sides make the goals market worth examining.

Peterborough had taken an early lead through Owura Edwards before Burton responded. The visitors then moved ahead in the 89th minute, only for Matthew Garbett to rescue a point six minutes into added time. It was another example of a match in which Peterborough scored twice without securing victory.

Huddersfield have also demonstrated their ability to create high-quality opportunities. Their 3-1 home victory over Oxford United was particularly impressive, with 3.53 xG generated from 24 shots. Eleven efforts tested the goalkeeper, while the hosts created ten big chances.

More recently, Huddersfield drew 2-2 with Sheffield Wednesday. That contest produced a combined 3.48 xG, with Huddersfield contributing 1.43 from ten shots and Wednesday registering 2.05 from fifteen attempts.

The home side's broader goals record strengthens the argument. Three of Huddersfield's last four home matches have produced over 2.5 goals, while two of Peterborough's four relevant away fixtures have cleared that line.

At 4/5, the combination is appealing given the attacking evidence, but it remains the least secure of our three selections.
