Sonay Kartal vs Jessica Bouzas Maneiro over 20.5 games @ 3/5
This match-up is a rather interesting one because we have a bit of a clash of styles. Sonay Kartal is a somewhat defensive player, in total contrast to how tennis is played these days. Bouzas Maneiro, however, is the prototypical player for these types.
She’s super aggressive, hits the ball hard, and mostly sticks to the baseline. It works quite often, but Kartal knows how to counter that. In general, though, it’s a pretty close match-up that could go either way. We’re not going to pick sides but rather bet on this being a typically close first-round clash.
In that sense, we expect this to end up being a three-set match which should clear the games line without too many problems. Bouzas Maneiro is still not at a level where she can win matches 6-2, 6-3, even if she’s the much better player. Far too inconsistent.
Lucas Pouille vs Alexander Zverev over 28.5 games @ 3/5
Alexander Zverev will begin his 2025 Australian Open campaign with a match against Lucas Pouille, who is not the best player in the world but is certainly capable of making this match interesting.
We’re going to back a possibly tight match-up here where Pouille will either keep it very close in three sets or even take it to four sets. Zverev has a habit of dropping sets early in Grand Slams.
He dropped three sets in the first two matches in Melbourne last year, and Pouille is good enough to win at least one set. If not, he’s capable of keeping this pretty close. He’s aggressive and has a good serve, which is more than enough to make this one interesting.
After all, it’s not a crazy line like 36.5 games, but only 28.5. Something like a 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 win for Zverev would clear this line comfortably, and we’re banking on that to happen because history has shown us that it happens often with Zverev.
