A MARKET people love to get involved with is top scorer but it looks so tough to call this year.
So tough the favourite isn’t an out-and-out striker in the shape of Thomas Muller at 7s and 8s. I wouldn’t put anyone backing the German – top European marksman at the 2014 World Cup with five – as long as you feel his country will at least reach the semi-finals.
Cristiano Ronaldo is also 7s and 8s with most firms but I don’t fancy Portugal’s chances so I have to leave him out.
Others in the running are France duo Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud, who hit a double against Scotland yesterday, as well as England’s Harry Kane and Poland’s Robert Lewandowski.
My each-way money is going on Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku who should be the focal point of their attack. The Belgians aren’t prolific scorers but should at least reach the semis.
If you can’t pick or don’t want to back a tournament top scorer look at country leading hitmen.
Some look no brainers such as Gareth Bale to be top Wales scorer (10-11), Lewandowski to be top Pole (4-6), Ibrahimovic to be top Swede (8-15) and Ronaldo top Portuguese (8-15).
Kyle Lafferty is favourite to be Northern Ireland’s main man but they won’t score many so I’m going for a long shot in centre-half Craig Cathcart who could nick one from a set-piece.
Kane is likely to be England’s leading scorer ahead of Jamie Vardy and for the Germans it has to be Muller. I’ve taken him and some others who should provide value.
So here are my scorer tips for the tournament.
