Bayern Munich are heading for their worst domestic season in a decade but they remain 4/11 favourites to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League despite trailing 1-0 to Lazio from the first leg.
Their domestic campaign has turned in to a disaster under Thomas Tuchel who has overseen a 3-0 defeat in the Super Cup, an early exit in the German Cup to third-tier Saarbrucken and a 10 point gap open up between themselves and first-place Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the Bundesliga.
Worryingly, as far as tonight is concerned, Bayern have lost five and won one just once in knockout matches under Tuchel.
The Italians will be out to capitalise on Bayern’s fragility but Maurizio Sarri’s men aren’t exactly firing on all cylinders themselves.
The Romans have won just one of four since defeating Bayern in the Italian capital. They lost a sore one on Friday, conceding an 88th minutes goal to AC Milan in a match that saw them reduced to eight men.
European success could yet salvage something for Bayern this season. They’re highly unlikely to win the Champions League but securing a quarter-final berth isn’t out the question tonight.
They’ll need to win by at least two goals to qualify within the 90 minutes and are just over even money (2.040) on the Asian Handicap with -1.5, -2.0 of a start.
In the night’s other tie Real Sociedad must turnaround a two goal deficit at home to PSG.
Soceidad’s only win in nine has come against Real Mallorca who played 45 minutes with 10-men so the signs aren’t good for a spectacular comeback.
The Parisiens obviously don’t need to win on the night but a lack of form for Sociedad means the value could lie with the Ligue 1 leaders at 7/4.
In the Championship the Ipswich / Leeds Utd Double will be popular. 2nd and 3rd in the table, both are in fine form and at home this evening.
Leeds will be keen to get back to winning ways after a draw at Huddersfield. They remain unbeaten at Elland Road and should be relied upon to beat relegation-threatened Stoke City.
Ipswich have won five on the bounce so confidence will be sky-high. Opponents Bristol City have lost three in a row and look destined for a mid-table finish.

Bookies still price Bayern up as though they are the team they were years ago when the likes of Robben and Ribery were playing and they are far from that in fact they are miles away from that. When was the last time Bayern Munich reached a final in this comp???. Bayern have actually had some pastings in the last few years Liverpool beat them 0-5 when they visited Germany. The point is the bookies odds are deceptive. Tonight I’m pretty damn sure Lazio give it there all an Italian team with a 1 goal lead can be dangerous and I actually fancy Lazio grabbing a goal here at a decent enough price, I don’t know if Lazio can win here but I’m also willing to risk a small wager on them not losing the game again at 11/4 worth a few quid given Bayern’s troubles.
