Juan Martin del Potro and John Isner will close out the first round of the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships in Memphis in the early hours of Thursday in a battle of the giants.

Unseeded Argentine del Potro, stands 6ft 6in, or should that be small, in comparison to 6ft 9in American Isner.

The pair will have met twice previously on tour and it's del Potro who has the edge ahead of their meeting at the ATP500 event in Memphis.

The 22-year-old 2009 US Open champion has slumped from a career-high world No.4 (January 2010) ranking to an astonishing 298 in the standings after wrist surgery reduced his activities to just three tournaments last year.

But given a wildcard in Memphis del Potro (4-6, Bodog, Skybet, Totesport and others) is slowly rediscovering his best tennis should see off No.6 seed Isner (5-4, Sportingbet) whom he beat on hardcourts in 2008 and 2009.

Del Potro, a semi-finalist last week in San Jose, won both meetings in straight sets but given he's still on the road back I reckon Isner could take a set this time and a 2-1 win for the South American is worth a look (10-3, Betfred).

Elsewhere in the first round veteran Aussie Lleyton Hewitt (3-10, Totesport, Boylesports, Victor Chandler) should be too strong for Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei (11-4, Bet365).

Another veteran, this time of the Belgian variety, Xavier Malisse (4-11, Bodog, William Hill, Betfred, and others) tackles Florent Serra of France (12-5, Bet365).

This meeting is likely to go the distance so three sets is worth consideration (8-5, Boylesports).

Fernando Verdasco of Spain is 4-7 at William Hill with Canadian Milos Raonic 5-4 with the same bookie. I previewed this match, a repeat of the San Jose final, earlier this week and I am sticking by my forecast of three sets (13-10, Boylesports).

The second round also gets underway today, James Blake going in against fellow American Robby Kendrick. Both are widely available at 5-6 and again the three-set market is worth a look, 13-10, Boylesports).

Another American, Mardy Fish (1-3, Bet365, Boylesports, Chandler) will be too strong for Slovak Lukas Lacko (5-2, Skybet, Betfred, Stan James).

The American duo of Andy Roddick, my tip to win Memphis, and defending champion Sam Querrey reached the second round as I predicted and will be back in action later on Thursday.
