THE Under-21 Euros came to an end last night but international football still hasn’t packed up for the summer.
It’s quarter-final time at the CONCACAF Gold Cup and there’s a cracker late tonight as co-hosts Canada and the USA face-off in Cincinnati.
Neither country is taking competition particularly seriously this year, with most of their big-name stars left out of the squad.
But the Yanks seem to have greater strength in depth as they topped Group A ahead of Jamaica while the Canadians only just sneaked through as runners-up in Group D after beating Cuba in their final game.
The Canucks could only draw with Guadeloupe and Guatemala so it’s no surprise to see them as Bet365’s 17/4 outsiders tonight, with the USA at 13/20 and the draw paying 3/1.
Canada conceded four times in the group stage so we should see goals but over 1.5 American strikes is just 4/5 at Unibet.
Going for cards could be a better option as there’s usually plenty of needle when these nations face off. Bet365 price over 1.5 USA cards at evens and have over 2.5 Canada cards at 11/8.
That tasty main course won’t be served up before 12.30 am but there’s a decent starter as Jamaica take on Guatemala at 10pm.
I had an each-way bet on the Reggae Boyz at 16/1 before a ball was kicked after they called up a host of Premier League stars.
Only a late equaliser denied them a win against the USA in their opener and Jamaica followed that up by thrashing Trinidad and Tobago then St Kitts and Nevis.
So the Jamaicans look worthy 4/6 favourites with most firms while Guatemala are as big as 5/1 at Bet365.
The best value is probably in the scorer markets and Everton’s Demarai Gray is 29/10 at William Hill for a goal after netting twice in the group stage.
There’s plenty of club football today as well and it could pay to take a punt on red-hot Molde striker Ola Brynhildsen.
He scored a double last week against leaders Bodo/Glimt and that made it seven goals in his last five outings.
With those stats, he looks overpriced at 6/4 with Bet365 for another goal away to Brann this afternoon.
