This time last year Liverpool opened up for their home match against Manchester City at 17/10, today they're almost as big as 3/1 in what is a do or die match for the Reds.

That's a reflection on the gulf between the two sides so far this season which has seen a 13-point gap open up between last year's champions and runners-up. While City have mostly been blowing the opposition away, Liverpool having been mostly blowing hot and cold.

Jurgen Klopp's men thumped Rangers 7-1 on Thursday and looked back to their best at times in a relentless second half display but there's a huge step-up in quality of opposition this afternoon.

City's 0-0 draw in Copenhagen, without Erling Haaland, proved how important it will be for Liverpool to keep the Norwegian quiet, but few have managed it so far this season. The striker is 8/11 to find the net, probably as big a price as we'll get all season, as is the 12/1 on another hat-trick.

Goals have rarely been in short supply when these sides meet, each of the last six clashes have seen both teams score and four or more have been scored in the last five contests. It's just 4/6 for Over 2.5 Goals and BTTS. Over 3.5 Goals on it's own is 11/10.

It's hard to see past City given the form of both sides at the moment so back them to win and score two or more at even money.

At Old Trafford Man Utd and Newcastle meet with both sides chasing a top four spot. For all United's problem so far this season, their form has been pretty good, winning eight of their last 10 but the Magpies can cause them problems today.

Eddie Howe's side went toe-to-toe with Manchester City, drawing 3-3 in a six-goal thriller, and it took a 98th minute winner by Carvalho for Liverpool to win all three points against them at Anfield.

Although united have been pikcing up wins it's been steady rather than spectacular and they look a bit short at 19/20. Better to be on the visitors at 11/4 to win or 4/5 in the Double Chance market.

In Scotland Giovanni van Bronckhorst will need to pick his Rangers squad up off the floor after that mauling by Liverpool. Injury to Connor Goldson leaves the Gers short at the back and Motherwell could take advantage. They don't have a great record in this fixture but they have taken a point in three of the last five meetings.

Well have also scored in each of the last seven clashes between the sides and are a terrific 8/11 to net today (compare that to the 8/11 on Erling Haaland to score). Working against Steven Hamell's side is the fact they've got the worst home record in the Premiership with just four points from four games and a measly two goals scoredm but BTTS looks attractive at 19/20.

At Pittodrie, Hearts too must recover quickly from a European leathering but they've failed to win their last five away to Aberdeen. The Dons have been as good at home, as they have been bad away, and they need a pick-me-up after going down 4-0 in midweek at Dundee United.

The Jambos European adventures were always going to stretch their squad and that could catch up with them today. Aberdeen at 5/4 will be popular but it might be better to back them to score two or more at evens. Jim Goodwin's men have hit more goals per game at home (15) than both Celtic and Rangers so far.

Finally, in Spain there's the small matter of an El Clasico at 3.15. Mark Walker, who scored a treble of winners in Scotland yesterday, casts his eye over another crucial clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona.

    Tonight’s boxing….. Claressa Shields v Savannah Marshall.

The buildup has been entertaining and the fight should also be. Shields should be savvy enough to keep Marshall at bay. Shields to win by decision/technical decision is 11/8 ✅ with Coral.

    GL all ?

Fair play to both fighters, an excellent fight. ?

Thanks Hull ?. There’s but been much I’ve fancied recently, but this one stood out ☺️

Will put this up early and no surprises it’s from the big EPL game…

    LIVERPOOL VS. MAN CITY (4.30pm)

I know my Pem stuff well but prefer the more obscure leagues for betting so will leave it up to much more knowledgable folk than myself to scrutinise the game fully.

There are so many stats out there but the one that stood out for me is that Liverpool are odds against at home for the first time in 18 years in the league.

That’s a big stat but stats are worth the square root of f*ck all in big, needle games…nearly 3’s at 11/4 is a huge price for The Reds and interested to see what Macca’s take is.

Whichever way the points settle, I’m not too proud to say I’m a a WDW wimp and think goals will be the way here – City’s striking potential and midfield is undoubtably class but they are vulnerable at the back.

    Here’s what I’m on:

    OVER 3.5 MATCH GOALS
    (11/10, bet365) NAP ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    OVER 4.5 MATCH GOALS
    (5/2, bet365) NB ⭐️⭐️

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE BOTH HALVES
    (15/2, bet365) LONGSHOT ⭐️*

*15/2 is not a good price at all for ‘bttsbh’ at just over 7’s but given the way the game could shape, it is worth a dubloon!

Best of luck with all bets everyone ?

As a United fan, as much as it pains me, I’ll be cheering on Pool later.. City’s flagrant disregard for FFP will eventually ruin the game (and UEFA turning a blind eye is a disgrace), but genuinely, this fixture is one of very few opportunities this season for City to be beaten and I’d hate to see them do an Invincibles season, so hopefully Pool do a job on them.. the atmosphere will be electric and Salah will be buoyed by that hatrrick, I think Pool look a massive price

I tipped the same Hull lad up to 6 goals, also taken Man City to win as my Nap of the weekend.

    • maccathered 3 years ago

Can’t see it Fitzy Konate is a major doubt for today also so very light in defense.

    • SmokeyJoe 3 years ago

A Man Utd fan complaining about clubs spending money whether it’s FFP related or not ? the irony of that after the amounts United have spent in the last 10yrs. English football and their Sky billions ruined football a long time ago not City’s Oil money in the last 10yrs

      8
    • maccathered 3 years ago

It’s funny because Newcastle will be closely monitored on every deal they do and will not get away with anything, whilst on the other hand it seems City can do whatever they want.

      1
    • SmokeyJoe 3 years ago

English football and the money they spend ruined football. When you’ve got small provincial clubs like Bournemouth with a stadium capacity of 12,000 spending £200m+ in 5yrs it makes the whole transfer business beyond the reach of much bigger clubs elsewhere. The games fecked

      4
    • fitzythegypsy 3 years ago

United have obviously blown a fortune, 1+ billion, but our revenue/turnover means it’s within FFP regulations, City have been spending as much but it’s been down to clever accounting/sponsorship deals from their own owners.. I’m not complaining about City spending money, just that they’re spending wayyyy above their means … if FFP actually exists!

FC Zurich v Young Boys 15:30

Bottom v top. Yes Zurich are the current champions but they have been terrible this season, they aren’t scoring many and are yet to win a league game. They have just changed their manager for the second time. Young Boys are top and winning games

    Young Boys win evens

(8/11 for score 2 if you prefer)

    Rennes v Lyon 14:00

Contrasting form for these 2, Rennes are looking good after a slow start and Lyon are struggling after a good start. I watch Lyon away at Lens a couple of weeks ago and they were terrible, they had no shots on target and didn’t look like scoring at all. If they play anything like that again today Rennes win this easily

    Rennes win 7/5

Also doubling Young Boys and Man City to both score 2+ 17/10

    All at bet365

Personally I feel the price on the Liverpool win is huge. City are definitely the form team but there is definitely not that much between if Liverpool turn up at their best. I feel Konate will start today as he was scheduled not to train on Friday. Goals is the way to go in this one.

    1
    • maccathered 3 years ago

How can Liverpool be at their best when there are so many players out,if Konate hasn’t trained then i can’t see him starting,i think we will get hammered today,i would love to see us beat them but i finding it difficult to make a case for us.I don’t think Haaland will be the problem it will be the likes of Foden.

    • alex 3 years ago

Macca this hinges on Konate if there is to be a chance of a positive result. Despite all the injuries only Diaz and Trent would start so I don’t feel we are far off our best 11. Not sure who else would get in for you? I prefer Gomez at right back today for a more steely look as Trent would be exposed by Foden. It’s at home against the champs so we have to raise it simple really and would hardly be a shock if we won but yes City are coasting at the moment.

I find it funny how the press always so things like ” its do or die” and ” its a must win”… even when there is like 25 or so games left, but its their job to make it apear so, when in reality there is plenty time left.

My tip for today is just to enjoy the game without a bet, cos this one has all the ingredients for a belter and to be honest its too hard to call for me. On one hand you have City on fire and Haaland fit and ready to go and prove to the world what he is made of (not that he needs to) and on the other you have a pool side at home and fresh from a convincing champions league win so I honesty thinks its too hard to call. Seven out of the last 8 fixtures have seen at least 4 goals so im hopefull for more of the same.

Best of luck whatever you are on ⚽

Highly doubt it but anybody think I’ve got a claim with William Hill… I had Salah 2+ shots on target at 9/5 and around 50th minute Ederson saved his shot but the corner wasn’t given so the shot on target didn’t count.

    • maccathered 3 years ago

Emerson did save from Salah so he did have 2 shots on target,be patient they will pay out on it surely.

    • dannyrichie999 3 years ago

Unfortunately William Hill are refusing to pay out. The supervisor essentially said there’s nothing he can do and they’ll stick with their “credible” opta stats source rather than video evidence.

    • maccathered 3 years ago

Always on the right side aren’t they,i bet you won’t be the only one but i also think they will eventually pay out. They usually do if you pressure them enough, like you said there’s video evidence.

Problem is macca your maybe the only team that can beat them, and while your struggling with draws against the rest they are going to walk away with the title. Another boring, paid for premier league win, brought to you by some dodgy airline from another country!

See rather than having a dig at City’s financials try having a dig at the money the other clubs spend to keep up with them but fail to bring success like city do. Chelsea and United for starters spend just as much as City. Their spending has been obscene for years but they buy poorly in comparison to City
