Rosenborg vs Molde Prediction and Betting Tips

Monday night at 7pm UK time sees the top two in Norway go head to head as Molde travel to Trondheim to face early league leaders Rosenborg. The two most successful clubs of the last decade, and the two richest clubs meet in what should be a really good game of attacking football.

Rosenborg scored two late goals on Thursday to beat Brann at Lerkendal to take them top of the league after a 3-2 win. It came courtesy of a Zachariassen hat-trick, the midfielder now on five for the season.

Last weekend they drew at the champions Bodø/Glimt 2-2, another late goal saving them, although they were well outplayed by Glimt which was slightly worrying.

Molde come into this one after getting back to winning ways with an easy 4-0 hammering of Brann last weekend. A hat-trick for Omoijuanfo and one for Aursnes giving them a comfortable three points and they are looking really good.

The second half aside against Tromsø, I think Molde have looked excellent, and now with Eikrem back fit they should just get better from here.

Molde haven't won at Rosenborg since 2014, so it has proven not to be an easy place to go. Last year it was 3-1, but that was late in the season with Molde already secure in 2nd place.

I think this will be a really good game, with two good teams very evenly matched. There is no way Molde should be going in to this game as 2/1 outsiders, as on their day they are a better side than Rosenborg. The home advantage helps RBK, but I have Molde as slight favourites despite the history.

Ohi Omoijuanfo has 5 goals in the last two games, him and Zachariassen are the top scorers so far in the league. Both teams have created plenty chances so far this season and I expect that to continue in this game.

They will match up in 4-3-3 formations, so it will all be down to the players. I expect Molde to have good possession with Aursnes and Hussain in holding midfield and Eikrem in the 10 position dictating play.

Henriksen is injured, Tettey is still in quarantine since his arrival, so defensive midfield is maybe a slight weakness for Rosenborg, Eikrem could well take advantage of it and an assist for him is so likely in this one.

Also, Islamovic is still a doubt in attack, another missing player that weakens the team, even more reason to think Molde might be able to edge this one.

Brynhildsen is the only injury doubt for Molde, so might miss out, but Ulland Andersen would be a very good replacement. He scored the two goals for Molde in their 2-0 win in Hoffenheim in the Europa League, so he has shown his quality before in big games.

These two teams both have quality attacking players, making over 3.0 goals on the Asian Goalline very backable at better than evens.

Players to Watch

Despite 5 goals in 4 games, Zachariassen is still really nicely priced at 3.75 to score a goal any time for Rosenborg, the midfielder pops up in the box more often than the wide attacking players in this RBK formation.

Zachariassen and Hoff for Rosenborg are also big booking candidates. Zachariassen has 3 in 4, Hoff has 2 in 4 and will be competing against quality midfield players who like to control the game.

Magnus Wolff Eikrem is 3.20 to score any time, he is a big game player and always fancies his chances with shots from the edge of the box.

Conclusion

A game that I think will see goals for both teams, attacking football, plenty corners and goal mouth action, it is hard to pick a winner, but if I was forced to choose a winner, I think Molde might just edge it, but a draw is very likely
