Partick Thistle vs Queen's Park

, KO: 19:45 Apr 7, 2023, Firhill
Queen's Park

THE latest round of Scottish Championship fixtures kicks off with Partick Thistle playing host Queen's Park on Friday night.

Kris Doolan's Jags returned to winning ways in style last weekend as they romped to a 5-0 victory at Cove Rangers.

That triumph snapped Thistle's three-game winless run in the league and breathed some much-needed life into their promotion hopes in the process.

In fact, the Firhill outfit head into this weekend just six points off the summit and they will be presented with the opportunity to halve the deficit when league leaders Queen's Park come calling.

The Spiders have had a season to remember but the wheels seem to be coming off after back-to-back defeats against Arbroath and Rath Rovers respectively.

While Owen Coyle's crew remain top of the pile, Dundee are now just one point behind them having played a game fewer.

Outright Betting

Despite falling to defeat in each of their previous three meetings with Queen's Park this season, Partick Thistle head into this all-Glasgow affair as 21/20 (Bet 365) favourites.

Queen's Park, who have claimed top honours in just one of their last five Scottish Championship road matches, make the trip to Maryhill as 9/4 (Bet 365) outsiders while the draw has been priced up at 12/5 (PaddyPower).

Betting Angles

It's difficult to have much faith in either team here so I’m happy to opt for an alternative angle by siding with Over 2.5 Match goals at 4/5 with William Hill.

While Queen's Park have scored more goals than any team in the second tier this term, keeping clean sheets has been an issue all season, with only three sides in the division conceding more goals than the Spiders thus far.

In fact, Owen Coyle's side have managed to keep the back door shut just once across their last 10 league games, conceding multiple strikes on four occasions, which doesn't bode well ahead of a visit to a Partick side who will be brimming with confidence after putting five past Cove last time out.

What's more, 11 of Thistle's 15 league games at home this season have featured three goals or more, not to mention the hosts themselves have conceded nine times across their previous three encounters with Queen's Park this term.

It's also worth pointing out that the Over 2.5 Goal barrier has been broken in 10 of the visitors' 15 road trips this season so far and there is plenty of scope for a repeat here given that both sides will have to go all out for three points on Friday night

With that in mind, coupled with the fact that this bet would have paid out in two of the previous three meetings between the pair this season, siding with Over 2.5 strikes at 4/5 (William Hill) seems like a sensible solution.

On a similar line of reasoning to the above, I'll also go with the even-money on offer with William Hill for Kris Doolan's side to deliver Over 1.5 Team Goals.

The Maryhill outfit have made the net bulge twice or more in 10 of their 15 home games this term and they could smell blood here against a Spiders side that have hit a sticky patch.
