Olympiakos vs Red Star Belgrade

, KO: 20:00 Dec 11, 2019, Karaiskaki Satdium
Red Star Belgrade

OLYMPIAKOS and Red Star Belgrade face a final night showdown to determine who will finish third in Group B and parachute into the Europa League.

Both teams have been brushed aside by Bayern Munich and Tottenahm respectively, however, a crack at Europe's secondary club competition remains up for grabs.

Red Star currently occupy third spot in the section on three points – a tally that was picked up in the reverse fixture – and avoiding defeat in the Greek capital will see the Serbians competing on the continent come the new year.

Meanwhile, Olympiakos currently prop up the group with a solitary point that was picked up on matchday one at this venue whilst battling back to draw 2-2 with Spurs.

Pedro Martins men have since lost five on the spin, however, the Greek champions have been competitive and spirited against the sections heavyweights, whereas Red Star have been butchered by both of the big two in Group B.

The Betting Odds

Olympiakos are big favourites at 4/7 (Sportingbet) to finish their campaign by collecting what would be a priceless three points in this crucial contest.

Red Star only require a point to remain in third place – an outcome that  pays  3/1 (Ladbrokes) – and a rare away win for Vladen Milojevic's men is priced at an unfancied 6/1 (PaddyPower)

The Betting Angles

Both Tottenham and Bayern Munich conceded twice inside the hostile cauldron that is the Karaiskaki Stadium and that coupled with Red Star's wretched away form in the Champions League has me leaning towards a home win in this make-or-break meeting.

Olympiakos striker Youseff El-Arabi has hit the back of the against both Bayern and Spurs in two of his last three European outings and I'm attracted to the 13/10 (PaddyPower) on offer for the Moroccan forward to make the net bulge against the men from Belgrade.

Red Star have shipped 19 goals in five European outings and El-Arabi looks overpriced to put the Serbians to the sword in what is a must-win match for Olympiakos.

Nine goals have been scored at this venue across two group games and goals could be the way to go in Greece yet again on Wednesday night.

Backing both teams to score is an eye-catching Evens (UniBet) however, the 10/11 (Bet 365) on offer for over 2.5 match goals also appeals – a bet that would have banked profit in nine of the 10 fixtures that these two teams have contested collectively in Group B to date.

What's more, both teams have conceded 33 goals between them in the aforementioned stretch of games and those stats as well as what's at stake, all points towards another goal-laden night in Piraeus.

Only Bayern Munich have managed to conquer Olympiakos in their own backyard this season and I'm going to back the Greeks to pinch third-spot at travel-sick Red Star's expense.

There is little value in backing Olympiakos outright at 4/7 (SportingBet), however, for reasons already discussed, I'm going to back the hosts to triumph in a game that sees over 1.5 match goals scored at 17/20 (Betfred)
