Man City vs PSG

, KO: 20:00 , Etihad
PSG

Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain meet at the Etihad on Wednesday night in the standout fixture of Champions League matchday two.

City have made an impressive start under new manager Enzo Maresca, despite the off-field issues surrounding the club.

They moved back to the top of the Premier League with a 3-0 win away to Liverpool on Sunday, their sixth top-flight triumph on the trot.

The Sky Blues also began their Champions League campaign with a 2-0 win at Porto, landing a couple of bets for me in the process, including a 4/1 winner.

As for PSG, they began their pursuit of a third successive Champions League title with a resounding 6-1 win over Slovan Bratislava.

After a stuttering start to their Ligue 1 campaign, Luis Enrique’s side have clicked into gear, winning their last three matches, including a 3-1 success over Le Mans at the weekend.

How the bookies view it: City to put PSG to the sword

Man City head into this heavyweight showdown having won each of their last eight matches across all competitions, and bet365 make them favourites at 23/20.

A PSG victory may tempt punters at 2/1, while bet365 have priced a share of the spoils up at 3/1.

Head to head: History favours the hosts

The head-to-head record favours Man City, who have beaten PSG four times in eight meetings. PSG have won twice, while the other two games ended all square.

The pair last met during the league phase at the Parc des Princes two seasons ago, with PSG claiming a thrilling 4-2 victory. A repeat scoreline in PSG’s favour on Wednesday night is priced at a whopping 40/1 with bet365.

Players to watch: Haaland hot streak to continue?

Erling Haaland has scored eight goals in as many appearances for Man City this season, making him good value to get on the scoresheet again here at 4/5 with bet365.

Nuno Mendes is effective at winning free-kicks, having been fouled six times across his two Ligue 1 appearances this season. That makes the PSG left-back an attractive option to be fouled 2+ times in this contest at 10/11 with Bet365.

Predicted line-ups

Man City have a clean bill of health ahead of this clash, with no injury or suspension issues to contend with. Phil Foden will almost certainly return to the matchday squad after serving the final game of his three-match domestic ban against Liverpool at the weekend.

With one eye on this fixture, PSG boss Enrique rotated his squad at the weekend and is expected to restore his strongest starting line-up at the Etihad. The reigning European champions will be without the injured Senny Mayulu.

Man City: Donnarumma; Nunes, Dias, Guehi, O’Reilly; Anderson, Fernandez; Foden, Cherki, Semenyo; Haaland

PSG: Safonov; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Zabarnyi, Mendes; Neves, Vitinha, Ruiz; Doue, Kvaratskhelia, Dembele

Anything else catch the eye?

All signs point towards a goal-heavy game at the Etihad, and bet365’s odds reflect that, with both teams to score priced at just 2/5.

To lift the odds to a more backable 4/5, I’ll add Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to attempt 2+ shots via the Bet Builder.

The PSG superstar has attempted multiple efforts in five of his six appearances in the French top flight this term.
