AC Milan travel to the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris for a Serie A fixture against Genoa on Saturday. The hosts have caught the eye with a few solid performances this season but Milan have that extra bit of quality and should claim the upper hand here.
Genoa have looked interesting this season under former Milan player Alberto Gilardino. Although they have looked erratic so far, there have been a few eye-catching performances this season like the 4-1 victory over Roma in their previous home fixture.
Unfortunately, Genoa have not been consistent with performances and results like that having picked up just the one win in their last five Serie A matches. They played out a 2-2 draw at Udinese in their previous fixture with Albert Gudmundsson’s brace cancelled out by the hosts.
Genoa have also picked up just one win in three Serie A matches at the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris with their defence often letting them down. They were beaten 4-1 by Fiorentina in their opening fixture of the season and also threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with champions Napoli.
In contrast to Genoa’s erratic performances, it has been a largely smooth campaign for AC Milan. With the exception of that disappointing 5-1 defeat to bitter rivals Inter Milan, they have looked like title contenders so far and are currently joint top of the Serie A standings.
AC Milan claimed a 2-0 victory over Lazio in their previous Serie A fixture with Christian Pulisic and Noah Okafor getting the goals. Stefano Pioli’s men have failed to get off the mark in Europe though, and were held to another 0-0 draw by Dortmund in midweek.
Despite their midweek Champions League wobbles, AC Milan will head into Saturday’s clash having won three of their last four away matches in Serie A. They picked up a 3-1 victory at Cagliari in their previous fixture on the road.
