BELGIUM produced the best comeback of Russia 2018 to give punters some cheer in Russia.
A Belgium/Brazil double will have been popular but looked unlikely when Japan raced to a 2-0 lead at the start of the second half.
Roberto Martinez's Golden Generation pulled themselves together and Nacer Chadli's last-gasp winner completed the rescue job and the mouthwatering prospect of a quarter-final clash against Brazil. Could the winner of that one go all the way?
I was on the favourites yesterday for a 4.4pts winner but Romelu Lukaku wasn't at his best and failing to score sunk the Super Single.
Bet365 paid out on both Japan and Belgium as their “early payout offer” came up where pre-match single bets on a full-time result are paid out as a winner if the team you back goes two goals ahead.

Steve Freeth of bet365 said:  “As yet we haven’t had too many kicks in the teeth at this tournament but that late Chadli winner has left us with our worst in-play result of the World Cup.

“We’d already paid out on Japan when they went 2-0 up and we’ve seen punters latch on to Belgium to win at fancy prices (biggest 20-1) when they were chasing the game.”

Belgium are now 11-2 to win the summer showpiece with Brazil leading the way at 3-1. France are third favourites at 4-1 and England, who are in the other half of the draw, 6-1 alongside Croatia.

Tonight we'll hopefully see more thrills and spills when England take on Colombia after Sweden v Switzerland in the afternoon.
I've posted a separate preview of the England game and touched a little on the other game which looks tough to call.
Colombia are a big price and will attract non-England fans but I can see Gareth Southgate's men nicking this if they're at their best.
Harry Kane to score is my Super Single and I've posted three long-shot Bonkers Bets for small stakes.
Well done to all the winners on Monday and good luck with all your Tuesday bets.
And remember to check out welovebetting for World Cup tips and video chat.

    Colombia v England
Either team to win on penalties at 9/2
    Sweden v Switzerland
Either team to win on penalties at 4/1
    2 singles and a 26.5/1 double (NAP)*****

    Sweden win at 21/10
    England to Win at 11/10
    at 5.66/1 (NB)**

Word of the day for me is STREETWISE in terms of betting and football, now bookies know that these two games are tough to call and on paper England and Switzerland look the strongest out the two but if it were put to a vote none would win with a vast majority. Now can England win and are they streetwise enough to see such a game out??my answer to that is yes they could win but no they are not streetwise enough to see the game out,one of my main reasons is the inclusion of Raheem Sterling and maybe Ashley Young two players that are far to predictable and rest assured Colombia will have done their homework.Raheem Sterling we know what to expect sloppy passing, woeful finishing, and diving a players who’s ego is far bigger than his bank balance,Ashley Young a good player but a winger who will not take on a defender on the outside, every time he cuts inside and it’s these two players my guess is that Colombia have worked on,stop these and you pretty much stop England, and for Colombia a team that has only conceded one goal the whole tournament the draw is a real possibility and Penalties.England are my next best to win in the unlikely event that Sterling plays as a team player and young goes on the outside.

Sweden have been pretty impressive and i can’t see them losing to Switzerland, another tight contest and are my nb to win here just incase but penalties for me.
    Best of luck

    • xhaka khan 6 years ago

      I don’t think Stirling’s problem is arrogance, it’s confidence.

I remember watching John Barnes play for Liverpool in the late 80s where he tore teams to shreds yet when he pulled on an England shirt he was a shadow of himself, and the crowd started booing him.

Barnes was a tremendous footballer but never really did it in an England shirt. That was down to a lack of confidence not arrogance.

    • acsafc 6 years ago

Don’t accuse a Liverpool player of not performing well Macca will have you believe they won the 66 World Cup haha

    • acsafc 6 years ago

Someone sounds bitter that Sterling left. You would probably win more money if you took your Liverpool tinted glasses off mate.

    • maccathered 6 years ago

I was actually pleased when Sterling left and shocked at the price, never rated him at Liverpool and certainly do not rate him in an England shirt, yet again another thick comment from your goodself.

    • maccathered 6 years ago

      Macca’s posted anymore for anymore.

    • acsafc 6 years ago

Who in your opinion has been England’s best player so far this tournament?

    • xhaka khan 6 years ago

      Sterling and Young

  7. xhaka khan 6 years ago

    England v Colombia under 3.5 offsides, 10/11, bet365. £20

Sweden v Switzerland £10 @4/9 b365 (6/5 for under 2.5 is available at 888 but that’s tight and it includes extra time, have put £5 on)

£10 on the barney. Alternatively just back the England game and the double.

I agree with Hullshaker that btts in the England game is an absolute stick on. That England back 3, plus the keeper, are not in the Wide Awake Club and are far too easy oazy. If columbia go to the sound of the trumpets as I’m sure they will at some point, they’ll score. But I also think England will bag too.

    BTTS 1ST Half 6/1, 188bet, £5
    BTTS BOTH HALVES 25/1, B365, £2

Will pop this one up now as early away in the morning and not back until KO time…

    COLOMBIA VS. ENGLAND (1900 KO):

Here we go again as The Three Lions enter the gladitorial arena that is the knockout stages of a World Cup and, as the collective 25 million Englishmen watching begin to wheeze, sweat and fart like Craneguy hobbling past his local gym, the weight of the nation rests on Southgate’s unassuming squad.

I was quick to pan Southgate and England’s chances prior to the start of the tournament and I’m not too proud to see I got a few things wrong; the manager has bizarrely hit the right chord with his approach, presence and manner and the players and media for once seem united.

Apologies over and a reality check though. We know nothing about the genuine resilience of this England side – the Belgium game taught us (pardon the pun) sweet FA; the Tunisian game was a very close call and the Panama game was a freak where decisions went our way against a woefully inadequate side.

So really, it’s almost the first game again – a game where England WILL be tested by a Colombian side who oughtn’t to be underestimated whether Rodriguez plays or not…the South American’s have plenty of strength all over the pitch and are taking shape nicely after a nightmare start against a (now proven) Japanese outfit.

Lots of folk out there tipping the 0-0 within 90 minutes but whilst England’s pressing wingplay and fast-feet are a very real threat, so to is that Laurel and Hardy music that can always be heard cranking up when the English back four and keeper are put under any form of pressure…for anyone who still fancies a goalless encounter, here’s a few stats from Opta to factor in:

    – England have scored in 17 of their last 18 World Cup KO games.

    – Colombia have never seen a 0-0 in 21 World Cup games.

-Colombia have scored in each of their last 8 World Cup games.

This is going to be a hard-fought encounter between two sides who can both produce touches of magic and press like hell – England in particular have shown again and again their persistence down the flanks and my English bet ‘de rigeur’ of team corners has stood me in good stead in recent months…it may just be one of the ways forward again tomorrow at a price that’s more than fair:

    Three bets to consider:

    ENGLAND OVER 5.5 CORNERS…EVENS
    ????
    (Bet365)

    BTTS…5/4
    ???
    (10 Bet)

Sterling might blow that out of the water on his own

    • xhaka khan 6 years ago

Sterling is the problem on offsides there’s no doubt, but the system is tried and tested. They dont all win but its been a profitable world cup (on offsides, not on my other bets!)

As an Englishman I’ve been left annoyed at the whole ‘it’s coming home’ nonsense.

All the shenanigans of wanting to finish 2nd for a better route and the fact England are potentially planning a route to the final is quite frankly laughable.

I hope to be proven wrong but England will bottle it. Whether it’s tonight, v Sweden or Switzerland or Croatia or Russia.

As I type a blokes on the phone saying how good a result it was for us the other night against Belgium.

All this confidence in an England side who needed four mins of stoppage time to beat Tunisia. Conceded to a frankly pathetic Panama (it could have been 2 or 3) and then lost to a Belgium reserve side. It’s laughable. The confidence and belief has come from the fact that Portugal, Germany, Argentina, and Spain have gone out.

Enough of the rant, here’s my thoughts from a betting perspective. I don’t see James Rodrigues starting tonight. Regardless, I still see a Colombia team who are capable of destroying this frankly shambolic back line that England possess. Quintero will be their main man in Rodrigues’ role and looks a player that can be feed the likes of Cuadrado who if expected comes up against Young will have a field day. Falcao the man in the middle will find the space amongst England’s back 3.

From a betting perspective I do fancy England to net but it should be noted that Colombia haven’t conceded a goal whilst they’ve had 11 men on the pitch. The 2-1 defeat to Japan came with Colombia down to ten men after 2 mins and in reality should have taken away some kind of result with one less player on the pitch.
A 3-0 win over Poland was up there as one of the best team performances I’ve seen from anyone at this year’s World Cup (alongside Croatia’s 3-0 win over Argentina).

Goals will definitely be the way to go but the odds on a Colombia win and Colombia goals is something I can’t ignore.

    Best Bets:
    Colombia to win – 61/20
    Colombia over 1.5TG – 7/2
Colombia to win and BTTS – 5/1
    BTTS and over 2.5 goals – 9/4

    • acsafc 6 years ago

To be fair a lot of the ‘it’s coming home’ is just banter but it is slightly annoying. Going to be unbearable if we lose tonight from the Irish and Scots waiting for us to fail. Surprised by it to be honest I like the other home nations to do well.

    • ricman 6 years ago

No way acsafc the pubs in Belfast and most of the towns will be bouncing for an England win??

    • acsafc 6 years ago

Yeah I’m meaning the southern Irish fans they really are quite bitter suprising seen as half of their team are English.

    • alex_mufc83 6 years ago

This seemingly everlasting bitterness against England really is just small-mindedness. Wish people would get over it.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

No bitterness, if anything it’s rivalry. How often do for exanple Man City fans want their neighbours Man Utd win.
Anyway off to find an England pub to watch the game – maybe as for the sound to be muted.
Good luck to everyone with all of their bets.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Just back from golf and watching Sweden game.
Most Scots have no problem with England – it’s the pundits we can’t stand.
We have to listen his smugness Gary Lineker – that doesn’t help.
Problem is we are a country in our own right having to listen to broadcasters from another country and it’s often forgotten they aren’t just broadcasting to England.

  19. bullseye 6 years ago

There’s no way I can bet and watch the England game. I’m going to be in full supporter mode for it so Sweden vs Switzerland it is for me:

    World Cup 15:00
Sweden vs Switzerland – Marcus Berg over 0.5 shots on target
Sweden vs Switzerland – over 20.5 multicorners

    Double 2/1 Bet365 **NAP**
    ————————————————————————————–
    World Cup 15:00
Sweden vs Switzerland – Sweden to qualify
Sweden vs Switzerland – over 4.5 first half Asian corners

    Double 2.8/1 Bet365 **NB**

Sweden are performing in this tournament like the Leicester City title winning team. They conceed huge amounts of possesion but with the few chances they have are very efficient. I’d also say that whilst their personnel is nothing to write home about they have the best team spirit that I’ve seen at the WC.

Marcus Berg is the main man for Sweden now that Zlatan has retired and he brings an aeriel threat and reacts to loose balls in the box. He has had at least one shot on target in all three group games.

Sweden have produced multicorner values of 30, 30 & 25 against S. Korea, Germany and Mexico respectively with first half corner counts of 6, 5 & 5.

Sweden had only 37% possession against Mexico which consisted of 72-26 dangerous attacks in favour of the Mexicans but still ran out 3-0 winners. This was by no coincidence as the better team exchanges came from the Swedes. Against Germany it was even worse: 24% possession consisting of 120-20 dangerous attacks which but for Neuer & Kroos would’ve seen a Sweden victory.

I’ve not focused on Switzerland here but they’ve conceeded in every game so far and I get the feeling that if this game does go into deep waters team spirit and unity will be the determining factor and enough to see Sweden get over the line.

    Good luck all

England should win but i will never understand this defeatist attitude of easier side of the draw etc, try to make teams afraid of you and stop being afraid of others. It will be very interesting to hear the post mortem if england world cup consist of a last gasp winner against tunisia, beating panama but losing to belguim and colombia.

Colombia have been a disgrace and barely deserve the draw.

Well done Hull, got a finny feeling had you not tipped that we wouldnt have had penalties lol.
    Well done all winners

  63. maccathered 6 years ago

4/1 for either team and 10/1 for England to win on penalties.

  64. kelly.d 6 years ago

harry needs to start using that head of his 6 goals and only 1 header need 1 more for 8/1 shot

    • maccathered 6 years ago

Should get one against Sweden Kelly, infact should get a few.

    • alex_mufc83 6 years ago

Dunno about that Macca, Sweden are solid at the back and very difficult to break down

    • maccathered 6 years ago

England should win 3 or 4 nil at least, they won’t test England like they did Switzerland.Even if we had met Switzerland you would still expect a comfortable England win.

    • maccathered 6 years ago

England have far to much quality for Sweden, infact you can get 10/11 on the England win which imo is massive.Sweden won today but were piss poor,i can’t see how they will cope with Kane, our only worry is set pieces but i can’t see Sweden getting many.

  65. xhaka khan 6 years ago

I hope the sweats enjoyed that ?.

Decent performance and the end of this we’ve beaten no-one good bow locks.

  66. HullShaker 6 years ago

Cracking night – well done all winners – both of today’s selections home and hosed but a healthy profit offset by my antepost of England to go out at this stage.

  67. davel 6 years ago

England now 4/1 to win the Tournament, same as France, with Belgium 6/1? (365 prices). A little crazy really all things considered and I guess some of it is a lot of English just backing them regardless. Still a lot of football to be played but great to witness us finally win a shootout!

    • maccathered 6 years ago

It’s nothing to do with the English backing them at all,Belgium are 6/1 because they face Brazil lol

  68. xhaka khan 6 years ago

Belgium are 6s because they’re playing Brazil.

    • davel 6 years ago

Yea good point, structure of the draw

    • maccathered 6 years ago

You have to fancy England v Croatia in the semi’s.

  69. xhaka khan 6 years ago

Have you seen our record against Sweden???

    • maccathered 6 years ago

Our record v Sweden??oh you mean when they had Zlatan Ibrohimovic yeah i have mate but he doesn’t play anymore so them stats for the England v Sweden game are pretty worthless.

  70. xhaka khan 6 years ago

What??? How old is zlatan @maccathered

All previous result are irrelevant especially that long ago. Completely different players and managers – everything in fact. If they met last week or last month then maybe but previous head to head from so long ago means nothing and will have no bearing of the result on Saturday. All about who performs on the day and/or gets a bit of luck

  71. xhaka khan 6 years ago

They’re a team we don’t beat. Zlatan has nothing to do with it.

    • maccathered 6 years ago

We last played them on Nov 14 2012 when they opened there new stadium Zlatan scored some wonder goals, looking at the two sides now there isn’t any comparisons,i fully understand where your coming from with the stats but i don’t go by them i use the here and now,i mean it’s no good saying England won’t win comfortable because we have a bad record against them,Zlatan has and was a big influential player for Sweden down the years they also had other quality players, they don’t really have any household names now and imo they don’t have enough to beat England.

  72. xhaka khan 6 years ago

So you don’t think that those results have any impact on players mentally. What if things dont go their way during the game.

They play a part. Should be an irrelevance but the phrase bogey team doesn’t exist for no reason.

Look at it a different way. Imagine if we played Germany. You saying that our record against them would be irrelevant because Lothar matthaus or miroslav klose doesn’t play for them anymore? No. Precisely.

    • maccathered 6 years ago

What your saying has no bearing on saturdays game whatsoever,i don’t even know why your bringing them stats up pointless infact. You learn more watching football than you do going by statistics mate, watching Sweden throughout this tournament they have impressed me by the way they have gone about their business, but now we are at the stage of the tournament where Quality should prevail, for me a comfortable England win regardless of your stats. Why your even mentioning Germany i don’t know get a grip.

    • xhaka khan 6 years ago

Ha. We’ll see. They are decent and you’re getting carried away. We have scored one goal in open play and the swedes are not going to struggle defending set pieces. Anyway, no point trying to reason. It’ll get me nowhere.

    • -wato- 6 years ago

Most of those results the current England squad were either in Primary school or not even born lol so no relevance what so ever

    • xhaka khan 6 years ago

That is exactly what they said going into the 2006 game @wato

    • xhaka khan 6 years ago

And at 2 0 up in 2006 they laughed at those statistics as well. “I was at school when those results were happening” . At 90 minutes they’d soon changed their tune.

    • -wato- 6 years ago

Sorry mate but going back to 2012 or 2006 is just nonsense and totally irrelevant. Do you honestly think the current team will be thinking about either of those results before or during the game on Saturday? Or the Sweden team which none will have played in either. Your prediction could easily be proved correctly but it will be nothing to do with the list of results from 6+ years ago.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

It’s a different manager, different team and a confident team.
I think England will win but they have to give Sweden respect.
From a Scottish point of view it’s a pity Lustig is suspended.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

For me the stats show we can expect a tight game – maybe another draw.
But h2hs are often less relevant than you think because most or all the players involved for England now haven’t played or lost to Sweden.

  73. xhaka khan 6 years ago

Sweden v England. Sweden DC 10/11. NAP

    • maccathered 6 years ago

@xhaka-khan I was buddy but couldn’t cope with stress so cashed out after first game. Stuck a large amount on England to win shootout though so all is well….
