Top Football Tips

IT almost seems like a throwback to the old days with eight Premier League matches and all six Scottish Premiership games taking place on Saturday.

The only top-flight game in the UK on Sunday is Leicester v Newcastle and that makes a pleasant change.

As usual Saturdays are all about picking the right ones from long shortlists and hopefully I've got it spot on this weekend – or at least get one line up!

I've posted separate Scottish and English previews and check out all the bets from the regulars as well as all the match previews on a busy site.

Don't miss today's other tips on the site

My Super Single could have been Man City and over 2.5 goals or Cove Rangers and over 2.5 goals but I've decided to go with a double as my nap as I can't see past Celtic and Rangers to beat Hibs and Aberdeen respectively.

Celtic should beat Hibs by two or three and while Gers struggled against the Dons last season, losing three times, Steven Gerrard has improved his side while Aberdeen have been a little stale this campaign.

My Top Treble is fairly risky with Celtic -1 and Rangers -1 in there and if you don't like it go with something like Chelsea to beat Brighton, Cove and overs plus the Man City and overs bet.

Last night my only bet was a 5-2 treble that landed thanks to Union Berlin's late consolation at home to Eintracht Frankfurt. I also had Blackpool and Nottingham Forest not to lose and both won.

Well done to all the other winners including Scott who is another fine run with his members bet.

Apologies in advance for anybody who doesn’t like my posts. Scroll past if you so wish.
What a week its been to be a Derby fan, I’ll try and summarize my week.
After posting up my thoughts on the Leeds/Derby game, about the only thing I got right was the cards overs, but a miserly 8/13 saw 4 Rams yellows and none for Leeds to see the overs 3.5 cards line met. The rest as they say, never quite went to plan – both from a Leeds point of view or from a Derby fans.
Leeds bossed that game for around the first 75 mins and scored quite early on courtesy of a Derby own goal. Leeds should of extended that lead from the penalty spot but a well placed shot went inches wide to give Leeds their first sucker punch. To be fair to Leeds, it was a penalty, but damn – should the British Olympics committee be needing a replacement for Tom Daly, they should have eyes on Patrick Bamford.
Right up until the 75th minute it was one way traffic for Leeds and at one point had 78% possession. And no shots on target for the Rams. I really sensed Leeds would want revenge and put us to the sword with a 3 4 or 5 goal score-line but the 2nd goal never came…. and cue Chris Martin as a late sub for Derby. I’ve always been a fan and never understood why he’d been frozen out for 2.5 seasons and 3 managers. I never posted this but 5 mins after his introduction, I dropped £10 on Chris Martin to get the 2nd goal. Bet365 gave me 20/1. It took until the 91st minute for Chris Martin to register the first shot on target for the Rams and wow, did he make it count. I think the late goal and the final result left everybody shell shocked, including the rams fans.
I reckon Leeds must of felt like they’ve just been mugged.
Derby didn’t deserve anything from that game but somehow for 90+ minutes stopped a Leeds player getting on the scoresheet. 1-1 it ended and both goals courtesy of a Derby boot.
And cue Tuesday nights drama off the pitch.
Unless you’ve just returned from a trip to the North Pole without wifi, you’ll see that Derby’s Tom Lawrence and Mason Bennett have made national news – for all the wrong reasons. A ” team building ” dinner, saw a handful of players stay past the dinner and play ” let’s get pissed, throw up all over the place, film it, upload it to snapchat, then race ( way over the limit ) back to one of the players place to sofa surf. They made it about a mile before they caused quite a bad crash. To add insult to injury, Both drivers got into the least damaged car and drove off. It wasn’t until a few minutes later they’d realised they’d left Richard Keogh on the back seat of Lawrence’s wrecked ” off-roader “. Nice team mates. Bennett and Lawrence were then arrested. To add insult to injury – literally, it now transpires that Keogh is out for an ACL injury sustained in the crash.
I’m not a Lawyer, but I’m certain that leaving the scene of an accident is a mandatory 6 months of Porridge. Just a few days earlier, DCFC had pitched in with a community initiative and got behind it called drinkaware – Mason Bennett was on the photo released to the public. That photo was pulled almost immediately, but it’s been seen and circulated. There are more players than the 3 named involved, but only DCFC know who.
They’ve handed the captains armband to Tom Huddlestone – which is a disaster waiting to happen. The only shining light out of this horrible mess is that possibly/probably Chris Martin will of moved up the pecking order. I’d so love to see him and Marriott bring their A’ game. Jayden Bogle is also possibly fit to start in his native right back, but we now have acentral defensive dilemma of do we drop Bielik back – out of position or put our trust in a none match fit Curtis Davis? Answers on a postcard.
Anyway, the majority of Derby fans are outraged at the behaviour of these morons and if these players were not treated as ” assets “, they’d of already received their P45’s. My brain tells me that come January, some of those involved will be moved on/out.
It’s put a whole dampener on the ram raid we did away to Leeds and going into the match at home to Birmingham ( a relatively easier on paper run of games than our previous several ) has started, but Derby are now a wounded animal. The whole team will be affected, morale will be on the floor and barring a miracle, this whole incident COULD push Derby into a really nasty place. I remember the Leeds assault situation with Lee Bowyer and co and how that whole thing affected the team on and off the field. I dread to think, but it could happen to Derby.
Anyway, I’m expecting neither Bennett or Lawrence to be anywhere near pride park come kick off and I really have to see how we react to this as a team. We’ve yet to win at home this season and coming off that Leeds draw would normally of buoyed us, but for Tuesday nights drama. So this game is really ” pin the tail on the donkey “. I have no clues on how to advise you. If anything changes in game, I shall let you know.
Team news hopefully up around 2pm.

Out queueing for new Adidas Zürich ? so looking at the fights for tonight online. Anyone watch Bellator last night? If there’s a bigger ?? in MMA than Michael Venom Page then I’ve yet to see him but credit where it’s due he can scrap and won by 1st round stoppage. Ireland’s newest superstar also scored a 1st round victory in a mere 35secs submission.

Boxing tonight,I think it’s Bullseye who gives fight insight sometimes. What’s yours or anyone else for that matter opinion on Errol Spence Jnr being the first to knockout Shawn Porter tonight? Surely a straightforward victory here but maybe a late stoppage could come? Thinking Spence Jnr win in 9-10 rounds 10/1 or 11-12 rounds 12/1

    ⭐Spanish Primera Liga 15:00 28/9/19
    Getafe v Barcelona

Getafe have only lost 1 game this season against Atletico on opening day of La Liga and have scored in all but one game. Even though the H2H record suggest an easy win for Barca but they are leaky at the back! No clean sheets in La Liga so far and they have conceded 2+ in 4 out of 6 La Liga games. Umtiti and Alba are set to miss this game and Messi is also questionable and we all know Barca struggle without Messi. On paper Barca should be good enough to beat Getafe however they are not playing well away from Camp Nou. Only 1 win in last 5 away games and they have failed to score in 50% games. Getafe will be up for fight and I think a goal from them is more than possible. Both teams to score is a good value @4/5 (1.80)

    ⭐English Premier League 15:00 28/9/19
    Wolverhampton Wanderers v Watford FC

Very few were surprised to see Wolves qualify for Europa League spot when they finished 7th in the Premier League. And Because of European competition they have played more 5 competitive games than Watford since the beginning of the season. Watford had a terrible start which led to their manager getting the sack just after 3 games and since then they have improved and only lost to current champions Man City with that 8-0 hammering! Even though Wolves have strong home record but the thin squad and more games means they are being forced to play same players every match and they are struggling in defence. They have only kept 2 clean sheets in 8 home matches and that was against lowly european sides like crusaders. Both teams have scored in every premier league game for Wolves and the trend looks likely to continue on saturday when Watford come to town.
Since the new manager’s appointment Watford have scored in all matches except against Man City and playing good attacking football. BTTS has come in last 8 out of 9 matches for Wolves games. Recent H2H results show BTTS result in 3 out of last 4
I think this will be an open game with Both teams attacking from the first minute and could go over 2.5 as well.
    Both to score @4/5 (1.80)

    BTTS Double @2.24/1

Not been a great week on the betting front but looking to turn that around this afternoon with these selections taken from the English/Welsh (!) Lower leagues:

    WREXHAM VS. EBBSFLEET UNITED:

I really fancy both sides to net here; Wrexham have a potent strikeforce and their new signings have settled in well having contributed to a consistent goals tally despite their lowly standing.

The hosts have failed to draw a blank in each of their 7 home fixtures this campaign whilst Ebbsfleet have hit the net in 80% of their own matches on the road, with just one of their 5 away games not seeing them grab at least one goal!

    Two selections to consider:

    Both teams to score
    (4/5, bet365) NAP ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals
    (5/4, bet365) NB ⭐⭐⭐

Also adding this goals Longshot for the 3.00pm KO’s:

    Chelsea
    Bournemouth
    Everton
    Portsmouth
    Wrexham
    Altrincham
    Farsley

    Billericay

@Mr H I can definitely see where you’re coming from in thinking Spence could be the first to KO Porter. Not many have seen the final bell with him, he has a high KO percentage, he punches hard and is big for the weight. In my opinion though I don’t think he will knock Shawn Porter out. Porter has been in with some of the best at 147lbs in Thurman, Brook and Garcia and in all showed toughness and smarts when under fire.

There’s no question Spence Jr will get the w tonight. Its gonna be a tough gig for Porter; Spence is probably the second best body puncher after Canelo but Porter brings a few things to the table that Spence aint seen before and they are relentless pressure (geezer don’t take a backward step, hes like a bulldog) and a high workrate, so it’ll be interesting to see how Spence reacts. I like Shawn Porter to be knocked down at 11/8 as there is only so long he’ll be able to ship those hard shots to head and body without them taking their toll. Also he has already been floored in a fight (Adrien Broner knocked him down). If Porter is to get KO’d it will come late; the guy is tough so I like your KO in rounds 11-12 at 12/1 because those are the championship rounds and Spence might just chuck the kitchen sink at him to get him out of there.

    • Avatar of Brian Hendry
      mr h 5 years ago

Cheers Bully,I’ll have a bit of the Errol Spence to get a knockdown at 11\8. As you say Porter is hard as nails and it’ll probably go the distance but fingers crossed for a late stoppage as someone will stop him one day . Enjoy ?
