IT was a good night in the Betfred Cup and hopefully we get more of the same on Saturday.
Big wins for Motherwell and Dundee United gave Greg two winners and landed my Dundee United -2 Super Single at 7-4.

Apart from the Betfred Cup there's not too much on the go – we have Gent v Mechelen in the Belgian Super Cup, some matches in Scandinavia and loads of friendlies.
I don't like betting on friendlies but it's difficult to turn down West Ham at 21-20 against Newcastle in the third-fourth play-off for the Asian Trophy in Shanghai.
Steve Bruce will be watching but not taking charge of his new team who were hammered 4-0 by Wolves in the semis. The Hammers were well beaten 4-1 by Man City but I watched some of that match and they played all right against the treble winners.
Both teams will make changes and are allowed 10 changes so there's a risk but West Ham should win it and I'm going for them as a Super Single. If they are successful – and it's not looking good at half-time – I'll add another one from the Betfred Cup but in the meantime my only bet from those games in a treble on Hibs to beat Alloa, Inverness to beat Raith and Stranraer to beat Berwick.

Speaking of Newcastle, Arsenal EvenMoney to beat the Tunesiders at StJames on opening day of season. Price looks mega considering there’s no real home advantage for the Toon, majority of fans looking at taking a stand and boycotting the game in protest to you know who. I know transfer dealings not complete but see no one significant coming to Newcastle, Joelinton looks nailed on but he’s no Salomon Rondon and at £36 million looks overpriced, 7 goals in 26 games in Bundesliga and from what I’ve seen not all that clinical in front of goal. Potentially a straightforward win for the Gunners…..

Nothing is straight forward when it comes to betting mate. We all know that from experience.
Fair comment but you know a team is in utter disarray when your fans turn on the owner, manager before he’s started and are now prepared to turn there backs on the club until it is eventually sold(Bruce doesn’t stand a chance at the helm) and all the tension and anxiety will be passed down to the players. Arsenal could be Half that price come matchday, looks good value right now to me. I’ve taken Newcastle to be relegated at 3/1 before Bruce’s appointment, expecting to get a good run for my money with that unless something miraculous happens.

Evening Nathan, the Galaxy not in the best of form and LAFC rightly favourites for this, the ref in charge for this was also in the middle of there previous encounter and handed out 6 cards with Galaxy the recipients of 5 of those. I wouldn’t ever recommend betting on the WDW market in this league, lack of consistency in results. LAFC boast a deadly strike force and may be too hot to handle, expect a feisty clash but I think there is value in particular for the hosts to be dealt some card action.

Before tonight’s action in Paraguay ( Cerro Porteno ) who are priced around 4/9 with bet365, I’ve found a little possibility. This time in South Korea’s 2nd division. Gwangju FC are unbeaten in 19 this term, winning 13. They’re away to a third placed side that have good form, but its not as consistent as Gwangju’s. Tonight’s clash at the O2 sees two of the most avoided heavyweights locking horns for the right to become mandatory challenger for the WBC Heavyweight title and weighing up each fighters attributes it only can play out to be a brutal affair.
The most important factor which needs to be raised is Dillian Whyte’s weight. Yesterday he weighed in at his second highest career weight of 18 stone 7 or 259lbs. It’s been seen previously (most notably against Joseph Parker where he weighed in at 258lbs) that around this weight he struggles to perform down the stretch. In that fight his mouth was open gasping for air from round 8 onwards and by round 12 he was critically fatigued which lead to a knockdown and a very near knockout with seconds remaining on the clock. Before camp Whyte stated that his ideal weight for the fight was 152lbs so he has clearly come in overweight and to put this into context in his last fight where he devastatingly KOd Chisora last December he only weighed 246lbs.
The weight says two things to me: 1) Whyte doesn’t plan on letting this fight go to the judges and every shot will be thrown with bad intentions in search of the KO 2) Whyte will fade in the second part of the fight, as he has before and will be stopped. Both fighters possess styles which to my eyes cannot result in the fight going the distance; Rivas is a relentless pressure fighter who does not stop coming forward and throws excellent combinations with both hands while Whyte is probably the most savage body puncher in the heavyweight division and possesses a money shot of a left hook all whilst being overly aggressive and physical in clinches. I also think there’s a real possibility that both fighters will visit the canvas before the fight is done and I’m also taking Rivas to stop Whyte between rounds 7-12 at 16s which I believe represents good value.

My nap of the day is Elgin city in the betfred Cup at home to Stirling albion. Elgin have started the season brightly. They won in midweek at alloa and this is their first home game of the season. Stirling got a good result v hibernian last week but were battered 6-1 in midweek v arbroath, who Elgin ran close last weekend. Stirling are generally poor travellers as well. It was settled as a loss, but me being me, I always double check results as I’ve been burned in the past! The Verdal game finished 1-2 but listed on many sites as finishing 0-2. I’ve been in touch with them and they said they’d look into it. Just checked my account and they’ve now settled as a winner👍
