Top Football Tips
Leagues Tipped: ,

IT'S a big night for the Old Firm and Wolves as they bid to join Arsenal and Man United in the group stage of the Europa League.

I reckon all three will make it but it could be the end of the road for little Linfield who have done brilliantly to make it this far. They take a 3-2 lead to Qarabag but it's probably not enough.

Best bet here could be over 2.5 goals and I've posted a separate Europa League preview. And there are separate previews on the Celtic, Rangers and Wolves' matches.

On Wednesday I put up a both to score treble. Start with Dudelange v Ararat as the Luxembourg side trail 2-1 from the first leg. Dudelange have netted seven goals in their last three home games while both sides have saw btts land in five of their last six matches.

Next take Riga v Copenhagen with the Latvians trying to fight back from 3-1 down. All five of Riga's games have brought up btts and while they'll go for it here the Danes are the better side and should at least grab an away goal.

Complete the treble with Wolves v Torino. It was 3-2 to the English side in Italy so Torino know they have to score at least to have any chance of qualifying. Should be an open game which should lead to goals at either end.

I'll add at least one more tip later or in the morning.

For the second night running my EFL goals treble hd two out of three winners but this time I couldn't cover it as Bournemouth and Forest Green ended 0-0. Poor old Forest Green couldn't even score in the shoot-out.

Well done to all the winners including Greg who landed two winners including his Estonian NAP and HullShaker with his Nap on a day all his thoughts were on the demise of Bury. I've been there with Clydebank and it's fair all of the site hopes to see the Shakers back in some form or another next season.

    Wolves Torino….

Not much time for a write up. Torino have to come and bring the game to us. It plays into our hands as we are at our best when teams attack us in an open game. Our counter is blistering at times and I can see Torino scoring to be fair. I can also see us scoring a few.

Won’t often NAP a 3/1 but I’ll take it on wolves to win and both to score. 5 points.

Also taking a bet builder for fun.

    TODAYS TIPS

    AIK VS CELTIC

I firmly believe Celtic will win on the night and progress but really difficult to pick a correct score as I think Legia Warsaw will also score. For First Goalscorer I’m siding with Mr Fixit and choosing Ryan Christie and remember he’s on penalties too. Sebastian Larsson is one of Warsaw’s danger men and he’s a huge 9/1 to score anytime which is decent considering he also hits penalties.

    RECOMMENDED BETS

RYAN CHRISTIE FIRST GOALSCORER @ 9/1
RYAN CHRISTIE ANYTIME GOALSCORER @ 4/1
    LARSSON ANYTIME GOALSCORER @ 9/1

    RANGERS VS LEGIA WARSAW

I expect this game to be tighter and it has 1-0 or 2-0 written all over it. Rangers will be desperate to keep a clean sheet as a score draw will knock them out. For Goalscorer get value in Goldson and Katic. For the player bookings market let’s look at Legia Warsaw’s midfield powerhouse Cafu. He likes to get a card and will he kept busy against Rangers. He’s a massive 7/1 with William Hill to be shown a card at Ibrox but don’t think those odds will last too long as he’s only 7/4 with Skybet. In addition, place a small side bet on him being first player booked at 33/1.

    RECOMMENDED BETS

    KATIC FIRST GOALSCORER @ 33/1
    KATIC ANYTIME GOALSCORER @ 16/1
    GOLDSON FIRST GOALSCORER @ 25/1
    GOLDSON ANYTIME GOALSCORER @ 10/1
CAFU FIRST PLAYER BOOKED @ 33/1
CAFU TO BE BOOKED @ 7/1

    Good luck everyone.

    • tortoise 3 weeks ago

Nice write up Chris. I would add Andre Martins to be carded at 3/1 with William Hill. He was Warsaw’s second most booked player last season and currently has the accolade of their most carded player this season, albeit very early days in the Polish season.

I can see Rangers getting frustrated tonight in what will be a feisty game .
    Rangers most booking points 15/8
    30 + Rangers booking points 11/8
Rangers to get a red card 6/1
    Skybet .

    UEFA Europa League Qualifying 19:30
Eintracht Frankfurt vs Strasbourg – Eintracht Frankfurt over 5 team corners

    Double 13/10 Paddypower **NAP**

I’m taking team corners for two teams who proved themselves in the away leg and play with home advantage tonight. Antwerp acquired 8 team corners in Holland despite being a man light in the 2nd half and Eintracht Frankfurt were awarded 7 corners in France.

    Good luck al

Somene told me that legia have not conceded a goal in the europa league so far.
How can they make rangers 4/9 bet365 to win the game. Far to short.

    • Mr Fixit 3 weeks ago

I agree it’s a little short but Rangers are the best side they’ve faced and have been scoring freely at home.
However, I’d prefer to see Rangers about 4-5. Also remember bookies set a price and it will only rise if people start backing Legia.

    • cockerspaniel 3 weeks ago

    EINTRACHT FRANKFURT VS. STRASBOURG
    UEFA Europa League
    29 August 2019
    19:30

Eintracht welcome the French side to the Commerzbank Arena and I think they will overturn the 1-0 away loss and qualify today.

The Germans got knocked out the quarter finals last year and will be looking to go one better this year, so going out in the playoffs will definitely be underwhelming. Frankfurt lost their last 2 matches both of them away and will be refreshed after 11 days on the road, to be at home once more. They have won all their home matches this season and they had won all their Europa League matches up on to the first leg of this fixture.

Strasbourg are yet to register a league win this season and their last 3 UEL matches they won have come by 1-0 victories. The French side have not been in European Competition since 2006 and I think Frankfurt has too much quality for this side.

Adi Hutter’s side will know what is at stake today and will be doing everything to ensure victory and I think they can nick this one

    SPARTAK MOSCOW VS. SPORTING BRAGA
    UEFA Europa League
    29 August 2019
    18:30

2nd on the Russian Premier League table Spartak welcome the visit of Portuguese side Braga and goals at both ends seems like a solid pick.

Braga have scored in every single match this season: 13 goals in 6 matches which is quite impressive for a regular mid-table side . Another fact of note is that all their away matches have ended in both teams scoring(2-4, 2-1, 1-1)

Spartak have scored 7 of their 10 matches played this season. They’ve scored in 3 of their 4 home matches played this season a total of 5 goals. One thing of note I find is that Spartak were on a good goal scoring run in all competitions, before they lost away to Braga their form read 2-3 away, 1-3 away, 2-1 home & 2-1 home all producing btts. In their last match, they won 1-2 away to Krylya Sovetov.

    AIK VS. CELTIC
    UEFA Europa League
    29 August 2019
    18:00

Swedish champions AIK welcome Scottish Champions Celtic in this 2nd leg clash after losing 2-0 in the first leg and I think we should find goals at both ends an easy pick for this one.

For the Swedes 4 of their last 13 matches in all competitions have seen BTTS pay outs including their last 3 home matches. They also have a deficit to overturn in this match or crash out of the competition so I believe they will go for it.

Celtic have scored in all their 11 matches played this season a whopping 35 goals in all competitions: an average of over 3 goals a match. The Celts have also conceded in 3 of their 4 away matches season a total of 4 goals.

    RANGERS VS. LEGIA WARSZAWA
    UEFA Europa League
    29 August 2019
    19:45

Another match I like for the BTTS market. Unbeaten Rangers host Polish giants Legia. The first match ended 0-0 but I do not expect a repeat this evening.

Steven Gerrard’s side have one all their matches this season bar the first leg of this fixture. at home they have won all their matches :2-0, 6-1 and 3-1, with the only clean sheet coming against Luxembourg side Progres Niederkorn.

Today they host a Legia side that will be looking for an away goal to improve their qualification chances. The Poles are also unbeaten this season, but my pick is based on their away form. At home they seem to like to keep things tight, score lines of 1-0,0-0, 0-0, 1-0 and 0-0 are enough to infer that, but away they are a different side winning and scoring in all their away matches this season save one(1-2,0-0, 0-2, 2-3).

With both sides knowing that they have to score at least once and with their styles of play in these sorts of matches I expect goals to feature and both ends.

EINTRACHT FRANKFURT VS. STRASBOURG – Home win and Over 1.5 @ odds 71/100
SPARTAK MOSCOW VS. SPORTING BRAGA – Both teams to score @ odds 16/25
AIK VS. CELTIC – Both teams to score @ odds 9/10
AIK VS. CELTIC – Both teams to score and Over 2.5 goals @ odds 3/2
RANGERS VS. LEGIA WARSZAWA – Both teams to score @ odds 29/20

    • Mr Fixit 3 weeks ago

Good info – one small point though. Rangers have won 6-0, 2-0 and 3-1 – they didn’t concede against St Joseph’s and did so against Mydjytlland when they were 3-0 up on the night and 7-2 on aggregate.

    • adesinaadele 3 weeks ago

Hi Mr fixit .. i thought the Rangers’ home match vs Hibs ended 6-1

    • Mr Fixit 3 weeks ago

Your comment seemed to refer to European games but you’ve obviously left out the St Joseph’s game which was 6-0.

    Over 3.5 goals at 3/1
    Over 4.5 goals at 13/2
I can’t see this game being as tight as the first leg,Rangers are in a perilous position here because if they concede they need two goals,so they have to go for it from the start, they need two goals as a buffer and are likely to concede in trying to obtain that, for me this should be more open than people and the bookies think and no two games are the same.
    Correct score 3-2

    • maccathered 3 weeks ago

Just to add to my reasoning for my nap,Steven Gerrard has a vast amount of European experience and he will know being a Liverpool lad that Rangers cannot sit on a 0-0 as if Legia were to score late on then it’s game over for Rangers this tie has to open up.

    • nb89 3 weeks ago

Macca I agree with your thoughts regarding Gerrard and European games especially with how the tie is set up. I think Gerrard will be looking to score in the first half hour.

    • scotswahay1 3 weeks ago

Also macca rangers will be desperate to try and kill this game off if they can Quickly. With the Auld firm game on Sunday in mind.

    • Mr Fixit 3 weeks ago

My concern over goals bets is how defensive Legia are. For me it will be tighter than that.

    • sasaharv62 3 weeks ago

Agree with Mr F about game being tight between the both teams,HOWEVER as we have seen in the past,Macca does call them right sometimes. So i will gamble a few pitiful pennies on the outcome and hopefully see Legia get a few goals and make rangers open the game up…Good luck Macca,,Im with you on this.

    Overs 0.5 tmg’s challenge Day 7:

Yesterday, we found another couple of games that did the business and it was a coin toss whether to opt for one match over another for bet number 2 on day 6. The match I red flagged was Rotherham/Sheff Wed… A 96th minute goal came in but would of burst everybody’s bubble surely.

I’ve not stat checked, but I am supremely confident that Wolves will win tonight, meaning the other side will not keep a clean sheet, but for the purpose of the bet, I have to stay on script and stay with the overs.
I’ve not checked prices and I’ve not looked at many stats for todays games. I shall endeavour to pick another game along with the Wolves match. Possibly, it might be a double tonight.
Whatever I choose, it will be up in plenty of time.
    Good luck tonight guys.

      Overs 0.5 tmg’s challenge Day 7:

      Bet 1.
I’m going to chance a goal at the 18:00hrs kickoff between AIK and Celtic.
The price is only 1/20, but the usual wait for price rises before you strike your bet.
My only concern about this is that Celtic do not have to win this game, but surely they won’t park the bus?
Should this deliver, I’ll be eyeing up a goal in the Wolves/Torino game for bet 2. I’m still chuckling about some fan banter between the two sides an hour before the 1st leg commenced. Torino fans saying they won’t lose to a bunch of farmers. Famous last words. I think Wolves have so far been terrific both in domestic and European footie. Really cannot see any other result than a Wolves win. As they’re from the black country, are they not nail-benders as opposed to farmers?

    • Mr Fixit 3 weeks ago

Celtic don’t know how to park the bus – Lennons said it yesterday.

Hi Nathan, Been on this challenge with you for for the past few days, some great picks.
After yesterday’s success was tempted to try a late night S. American game,to boost my pot,

I know some people think it’s a long haul for small gains to start with, but even over the last 4 or 5 days
I have learned to be more disciplined with my betting strategy. So even if I don’t make my fortune
off this challenge, I will have gained better discipline, keep the tips with many thanks.

Bugger, left it too late to place my bet. A few mins ago it was 1/10 and the kettle was calling my name. I had a plan B in these early kick offs but was put off by a few that are taking dominating leads into the 2nd leg. So I’m gonna wait for Wolves.
@williegee , you’re right, it’s small gains and they mount up. I’m dead set on making just a couple of bets a day. If we make it through today, then I’ve stayed on the path for 7 betting days. It’s harder than it sounds because of our natural urge to over reach – get in just one more.

    • nathanufton 3 weeks ago

      Bet 2:

      Wolves overs 0.5’s tmg’s @ 1/50.

Shockingly bad price pre-kick off price, but hold your nerve and try to place your bet around the 1/14 – 1/12 price to come up.

    • ChrisBax 3 weeks ago

Just got on at 1.12 and Wolves scored a minute or two later at minute 29 😉

    • nathanufton 3 weeks ago

Not sure what price you jumped on the Wolves game but I grabbed a 1/12.
      Nothing more from me tonight.
Give yourselves a pat on the back for making it 7 days of progress. I’ll look later at tomorrows card and if anything jumps out at me, we’ll go again.

    Afternoon gents,

Long couple of days at work and not back until later but don’t wonder if we’ll see a few goals in Paraguay this evening for the 2nd leg of this Copa Libertadores tie…

CERRO PORTENO VS RIVER PLATE (11.15pm):

River ran the 1st leg and looked infinitely better than Cerro who seem to have hit a real bum patch with just a couple of wins in their last few domestic and cup fixtures.

The hosts have little to lose and it may well lead to a more open game with the pressure off to a certain extent.

Hard not to see a bit of action with River netting very early in the first leg and wanting to make another credible showing as they look for a solid way through to another potential Copa Lib crown:

    RIVER PLATE GOAL BEFORE 53:00
    (5/6, bet365) NAP ⭐⭐⭐

    OVER 2.5 GOALS
    (5/4, bet365) NAP ⭐⭐

    OVER 3.5 GOALS
    (3/1, bet365) LONGSHOT ⭐

    Best of luck!

    • nathanufton 3 weeks ago

Is it me or have River Plate dropped down a level or 2 since the heady days of the late 70’s to 80’s. I know it’s a while back, but River Plate used to regularly have 8-10 players in their starting line up from the Argentine national squad.

    • HullShaker 3 weeks ago

To be fair Nathan, my nan could maybe get a game for River Plate and she’s got a wooden leg 😂

Exaggerating a bit but the overall standard of Argentinian football is poor compared to those halycon days of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.

Why? Their best are exported out to European teams to feed the big team money beasts instead of staying at Boca, River, etc.

Looks like some money is going on Wolves tonight. Price dropped from 8/11 to 4/6 with bet365.

    • richb20806 3 weeks ago

Expected it mate. The fact that Torino have to chase the game a bit plays to our Counter Attack. Just awaiting team news. Scarily I’m eating my words a bit (so much I’m choking) and Traore has looked very good the last few games and seems to be fitting well into his new position.

Really expect us to score 2nd half today. We tend to soak things up early on and then come out from the break all guns blazing.

      BTTS very likely.

Wouldn’t be surprised to be losing at half time and come back 2-1/3-1 after the break.

    • richb20806 3 weeks ago

Team news in. Only change from the 1st leg is Johnny in for Vinagre…. slightly more of a defensive option.

Traore wingback again where he is well suited.

I’ll standby my 1st thoughts. We will sit back and soak pressure up first half and try to hit the counter. 2nd half expect to be more free flowing.

    • HullShaker 3 weeks ago

Belting stuff Rich – always have a soft spot for Wolves – one of the first teams I watched at Gigg 👍

    • richb20806 3 weeks ago

Thanks Hull. Remember home and away against Bury in the late 80s in the old division 3. Think you gave us a right beating at your place and then we returned the favour back at our cowshed. Good days and a proper old club with history.

    • HullShaker 3 weeks ago

Was a few crackers back in the day – opening game of the ’88 season sticks in the mind – we beat you 3-1 first game of the season at Gigg – old Div 3 (as was). Big Jamie Hoyland header for the first and lots of tear-ups in the backstreets and alleyways after the game.

I think your lads brought around 2000 which was a big away following for us and matched our home crowd – I’d never heard a proper black country accent until then.

      Great memories.

    • richb20806 3 weeks ago

Yeah that’s the one mate. Remember it…. was only a youngster at the time but went up with the uncle and cousin to quite a lot of away games. We beat you 4 nil at Mol I think….. good memories when football was a lot simpler

Looking at a later Night Owl and will post if think.it has a chance.

  77. HullShaker 3 weeks ago

    Night Owl:

    ATLÉTICO NACIONAL VS. DEPORTES TOLIMA
    (1200am):

In brief, this one could come down to home form but a recent and relevant H2H record indicates there may be value.

I find that the Colombian games are priced very broadly and by that I mean, I’m not sure it’s a league and country that traders have truly gotten to grips with.

Prices for goals tend to be appealing unless there is a really solid favourite and this is the case here – I won’t go into stats but it’s a fixture that sees two similar teams and so, like the Brasilian B and C ‘tiers’, it seems to be a case of setting overs at a decent premium.

Yes, this is a cup game but given Nacional’s recent home form (scored 5-3-4-3) and the fact that the previous 5 H2H’s within a 13 month period all saw scorelines of 2-1 or 1-2, I sense there may be mileage in taking on a late Colombian line:

    Recommended bet:

    Over 2.5 goals
    (23/20, bet365) ⭐⭐

    Best of luck 😉

    • HullShaker 3 weeks ago

Foxwalker, I sincerely hope 365 don’t try and skew the goal time because River Plate have just equalised exactly 72 seconds before the 63:00 line – worth taking a screenshot of the summary as these bets can tend to be disputed 😉

  79. HullShaker 3 weeks ago

Nap lands in Paraguay but a lack of goals in Colombia for the late one…final score 0-1
