Monday’s Football Tips: Red Devils Can Call The Toon at Newcastle

Newcastle are running out of time if they're to avoid the ignominy of being the ‘richest football club in the world' while playing in the second tier.

They've taken just 10 points from their opening 18 games and with the safety watermark usually set around the 40 point mark they're going to need some turnaround in the second half of the season to avoid relegation. Before they can flex their financial muscle in the January transfer window they welcome Manchester United to St James' park tonight.

The Magpies simply haven't been good enough this season and have struggled against the better sides, losing all 10 matches against teams in the top half of the table this season. Eddie Howe's appointment hasn't quite had the impact the club would have hoped for, winning just one of their seven matches since his arrival.

The Red Devils sit seventh with a couple of games in hand over teams above them. They haven't played since their 1-0 win at Norwich City back on December 11th and have a near fully fit squad to choose from – a rarity in the Premier League at the moment.
