Neither Sheffield Wednesday or Sunderland should be League One clubs given their size and history but only one will take a huge step towards a return to the Championship tonight, while the other will be consigned to another season in the third tier.
Wycombe Wanderers will stand in the victors' way after they booked their place in the play-off final yesterday despite losing 1-0 to MK Dons.
It's Sunderland who'll take a 1-0 advantage in to tonight's second leg thanks to Ross Stewart's 25th goal of the season on Friday night. That narrow victory leaves things finely poised for the return leg at Hillsborough tonight and that home advantage could be crucial.
The Owls picked up more points at home than any other side in League One and their 16 home wins was only equalled by tonight's opponents. Expectations will be high then, that Wednesday can turn this tie around.
A repeat of November's 3-0 home win over the Black Cats would be ideal but this one has the look of another tight affair. Sheffield Wednesday are even money to win inside 90 minutes and even bigger at 6/4 to qualify. The bookies reckon Sunderland are in clear pole position have them at 1/2 to qualify. A repeat of a one-goal winning margin either way pays 13/10.
