Prince Kameo did what I expected, and that was a gritty performance, finding more despite being challenged. He got beat on the blindside by a horse from the rear, who he had previously beaten.
Nahraan had no excuses apart from the fact that Oisin Murphy looked like an apprentice in the saddle. He looked extremely weak in the saddle, with no power or urgency when he needed to boot his mount home. The winner was always the danger, as he was unexposed, and he did win comfortably.
Glittering Surf 22/1 (EW, 3pl) – Ayr 3.00
Owen Burrows sends one runner to Scotland on Thursday, and she is priced up at 22/1.
Since Owen began training, he has only had two runners at Ayr, which resulted in one win and a profit of +4.50 to level stakes. He has had one runner at Musselburgh, and that concludes his runners in Scotland, which goes to show that he doesn't send many up. Despite him only having one winner in three runners, it's not a terrible return.
This looks like it's a tough race, and I think if you side with any of the top three in the market, you'll be in a safe position for a good run. Obviously, I've taken the risk on the outsider of the bunch, but she is trying a new trip and is having her first run since a wind operation.
Her pedigree points towards this step-up in trip being the correct decision. Her Dam wasn't a great horse, but she was related to Kitesurf and Surfman, who were both 100+ horses at middle-distance trips.
God Of War 9/1 (EW, 4pl) – Yarmouth 3.45
This is another tough race, but God Of War caught my attention with the drop in trip.
God Of War is a horse who pulls too strongly over longer trips, and looks to be suited to this six-furlong race. He has only raced over this distance once before, which came on his debut, so it's not a fair representation if he likes it or not.
The ground at Yarmouth is good to soft, good in places. Ideally, I'd want it a little softer for God Of War, who has shown his best form on soft ground, but it's not going to extremely quick ground, so I think he will be perfectly fine on this surface.
His handicap mark has slowly dropped throughout the year, starting at 96, and he is now running off 88. He has been running consistently well, finishing a few lengths behind the winners nearly on every run, and given that he is quite headstrong, he's not giving himself the best chance of winning.
Hopefully, the drop in trip should help him settle, and we can see the best version of God Of War.
