Aside from Rhoscolyn not running particularly well, the other two were beaten by outsiders of the field.
Desert Shadow lost his race by being too keen, and that's the only factor. He got no cover and was pulling his head in every direction. The horse has so much ability; he cruised to the lead, and when Oisin asked him to put the race to bed, he tried, but then got caught by a double-figure-priced horse.
Moon Target took a lifetime to get rolling, and she was positioned in the correct spot to strike if she was good enough. The winner of that race was a 33/1, and I would have never picked that winner out if you gave me a year to do so.
Mazzala 6/4 – Deauville 2.50
Since I tipped up Parachutiste on his last start, and also watched him get a shocking ride when I tipped up Sons And Lovers, I know how good Parachutiste is, yet Mazzala destroyed him.
6/4 is getting on the short side, but how can you go against this progressive horse? He continues to win, and last time out was such a big leap of improvement, against some very solid horses; what's not to like?
I am convinced Parachutiste is a Group 2 level performer when they decide to chuck Barzalona off. The third-placed horse, won the big race at Windsor on Saturday, so the form is really starting to stack up.
The main horse in the market to back against Mazzala is Arrow Eagle. He is a wonderful horse, but he is best over staying trips. From what I've seen from Mazzala, he should have too much pace for him. Al Aasy is priced up in third-place in the market. Despite him being a lovely horse for Haggas, his best days are definitely behind him.
Al Shabab Storm 10/1 (EW, 3pl) – Beverley 2.15
I think I'm correct in saying that the Bullet is never on a Sunday, so it feels extremely strange that it has fallen on this day. However, it's a fantastic renewal, and I think it's extremely open.
Al Shabab Storm was a horse I looked at last time out, and I thought he was a very interesting runner for Michael Appleby, but I decided to go with Kylian. I thought my selection in that race was very unlucky, but history tells me that he wasn't, as he has done little since. However, it was his first run over five furlongs in his career, and it looked like it worked.
This is a totally different scenario, as it's on soft ground rather than the AW, but at 10/1, he's worth a shot.
He is proven on soft ground over the years, and I think that if he can get a clear run, which can be a problem in Beverley sprints, why can't he win this? The form of his Newcastle win looks solid. The runner-up and third-placed horse have since franked the form. The runner-up has won since, and then finished second at York behind the third-placed horse.
