Rizz is away for a few days so Cairnzy will be stepping in to cover the racing threads. Rizz will return on Monday evening with his selections for Tuesdays card.
Neither of Rizzel’s selections got the job done on Friday.
Nabati looked like he was coming with a strong challenge, but he struggled to peg back the eventual winner who managed to shrug off any challenges as he hit the front.
Winday was backed throughout the day into around 7/2 but he drifted out before the off. From what I’ve read, he became quite agitated before the off. In terms of his performance, I thought he too looked like he was about to lay down a challenge but he quickly went backwards and ultimately it was quite a disappointing performance.
Timeless Tale 13/8 – Leopardstown 13:35
This looks like an interesting race to open the card at Leopardstown on Saturday.
I was tempted by Maire Rua at first. She’s a beautifully bred filly by Frankel and she’s ran well in defeat the last twice. She wasn’t seen to beat effect last time out but there’s races to be won with her for sure.
Ibeleiveicanfly is Aidan O’Briens runner in this race and she too is a filly by Frankel. She’s back down in class after finishing fourth in a Group 2 at the Curragh last time out but I thought she potentially vulnerable to an improver.
The improver that caught my eye was the current market favourite for this race in Timeless Tale. The form of her debut win last time out is hard to judge and you could probably argue she didn’t beat much, but the manner in which she did was impressive and you can only beat what’s in front of you. She cruised into contention on the bridle and showed a nice turn of foot to forge clear of the field. I thought she looked like an exciting enough prospect and should come on for the debut run. Jockey Billy Lee has been booked for the ride.
National Pride 7/4 – Chester 14:40
Your current market favourite Night Star has shown more than enough to date to suggest he is capable of landing a race of this calibre but at 11/10 I think you can take him on. He is definitely the one to beat on paper but a wide draw at Chester can make things tricky and If he doesn’t break well, then it could prove a difficult enough task.
The horse I was happy to take him on with was the William Haggas trained National Pride. I’m a huge fan of the Fallon and Haggas combo and National Pride looks like the horse who will give the favourite something to think about. My selection took a big step forward from his debut run at Ascot to finish second at Catterick last time out. Although he was never pegging back the winner, he did stay on well enough to suggest he’s capable of being involved.
