Rizz is on a break and the guys at MFT have called upon me to cover again in his absence.
I was in hibernation mode for a while there, patiently waiting for the flat season to arrive but I'll never turn down an opportunity to take the hot seat and cover my good pal rizz!
In the meantime hopefully I can find a winner or two for the thread.
I've gone hunting at the evening meeting at Newcastle for my sole selection of the day.
Diligent Harry 11/4 – 6:30 Newcastle
I'm quietly confident that the Clive Cox trained Diligent Harry can defy top weight in this.
Carrying top weight is never a good thing but I think Diligent Harry's class will see him through in this and at a nice price as well.
The market seems to think this a bit more competitive but I was personally surprised to see my selection marked up as big as he is.
I do expect that price to shorten, so if you are having a bet I'd probably advise taking the 11/4.
I must admit I developed a liking to this horse back in 2021 when he had a cracking season winning multiple times and placing in a couple of group races against higher opposition.
Connections were confident that he looked set for a big year in 2022 but if I'm honest I was a little underwhelmed with his 2022 campaign.
His most eye-catching piece of form from his 2022 campaign was probably his run at Royal Ascot. Although he finished out of the placings on that particular run he was still only beaten by roughly 5 lengths by the eventual winner Naval Crown. Horses such as Alcohol Free , Kinross and Creative Force were all just a few lengths ahead of him on that day.
As much as it may not look great on paper when you pick the bones out of it, it's not actually a bad run given the opposition he faced.
Diligent Harry was gelded over the winter and returned to action at the start of February when going down by roughly a neck.
He lost out to Mick Applybys Annaf who was already on great form and landed the hat trick that day.
Although Diligent Harry hung across the track in the business end which of course didn't help his cause.
A combination of having a run under his belt and a drop into handicap company should hopefully see him get his head back infront.

Both these went in my tracker after debut but I only watched Pasheona so no notes.
Mount Margaret just failed to get up on debut v some decent horses and was in front of the favourite in this race that day who was also making his debut, goes up 1 pound more than him but was 2 lengths in front and flying home once penny dropped.
