Cairnzy and Rizzel have picked out two selections each for Monday's lucky 15 bet. As usual, if you have a fancy let us know in the comments.
Cairnzy's Tips
Elmonjed 7/2 – Windsor 7.10
This class 2 event is probably the best race on offer in terms of quality on Monday, but it looks like a tricky puzzle to solve on paper, with plenty of these arriving in good nick with £75,000 the main prize on offer.
My selection was behind a couple of these at Windsor last time out when finishing third behind Amazonian Dream and Palmer Bay. He meets those two rivals on better terms this time round with Palmer Bay 4lb worse off while Amazonian Dream is 2lb worse off. Connections opt for headgear this time round, which would suggest they feel he's not giving it his all during his races. He's still held in some regard by William Haggas and looks worth chancing in this wide-open class 2.
Aleishka 3/1 – Kempton 2.10
Most of these arrive completely out of sorts but the slight exception for that comment could be the Ed Dunlop trained Aleishka. My selection took a massive step forward last time out, finishing in third place at Beverley over 7f. This looks a weaker race compared to her recent outing and she looks interesting stepping up to a mile with blinkers applied. Silvestre De Sousa is also an eye-catching jockey booking and she should go close in this.
Rizzel's Tips
Flying Panther 9/2 – Windsor 8.10
It's crazy to say that a horse with 24 race starts to his name is unexposed, but Flying Panther is that anomaly as he has only had two runs on turf, with the rest coming on the all-weather.
James Owen's horse made an encouraging return to turf at Yarmouth just over a week ago when finishing 3rd/8. He was bumped when putting his effort in, which didn't help his cause as he was only beaten by 0.5L, so without that small interference he might've won. His mark has been untouched by the handicapper, so given that he is now 3lbs lighter as Sean D Bowen is riding him today, he looks to have found a decent opportunity to get off the mark on turf, which connections have been trying to avoid.
At A Pinch 20/1 – Kempton 5.35
This seems a pick from left field, but there are reasons to believe that At A Pinch is a player at big price for the finale at Kempton.
This 6-year-old will have to carry a big lump of 10st 4lbs to win this race, but based on her runs under John & Thady Gosden back in 2021, she could be on a very good handicap mark of 70 for today's race. She was rated in the 80s when winning a maiden over today's C&D, and she did win that race with a minimal amount of fuss, producing an RPR of 85. Connections back in 2021 must've felt she was a decent horse as she was pitched in Listed company on two occasions. Since leaving the Gosden yard she went to Harry Eustace's yard where they sent her hurdling, gaining two victories along the way before moving on to her current yard of Toby Lawes. She hasn't hit the ground running over hurdles with Toby, but he has thought this isn't working and let's try her on the flat where she clearly is on a good mark if she still has the ability.
This is the worst race she has probably ever seen on the flat and though it is a competitive race on paper, I thought odds of 20/1 were well worth a go, especially with connections opting for a claimer which puts her onto a mark of 67.
WHAT IS A LUCKY 15 BET?
A Lucky 15 bet consists of 15 unique bets, covering every possible combination that comes from backing four selections. The 15 bets are broken down like this:
– 1 fourfold accumulator
– 4 trebles, with each treble omitting one of your selections
– 6 doubles, again covering every possible combination
– 4 singles
The attraction of a Lucky 15 is that it offers many more ways to win than a standard accumulator. A Lucky 15 uses both your acca and your singles as well as producing trebles and doubles that reward you for correctly calling 2/4 or 3/4 of your selections. To cover the 15 separate bets, a Lucky 15 uses your stake 15 times. If you were to place £1 on a Lucky 15, you would be staking £15 in total across the various bets.
