The big guns enter the Scottish Cup this weekend and Aberdeen face a proverbial banana skin against Clyde tonight.

The Dons were dumped out of the cup at this stage last season by sixth-tier Darvel in one of the competition’s biggest upsets, a match which accelerated boss Jim Goodwin’s departure from the club. His replacement, Barry Robson, has also come under pressure this season with just six wins in 18 league games – three of those coming in the last four.

Clyde’s well-traveled boss Ian McCall actually signed Robson fro Dundee United many moons ago but would swap a win over his former player for League Two survival.

The Bully Wee are bottom of the pile and in danger of dropping out of the SPFL and although results have improved of late they don’t look likely to pull off a Darvel-esque upset.

Barry Robson will be well aware of the consequences of a defeat tonight and will no doubt go as strong as possible with his line-up. It might not be pretty but the Dons should get the job done although they’re too short to be backing at just 1/6.

The 10/11 on an Aberdeen win to nil makes much more appeal. They should limit Clyde to few chances and indeed the League Two side are as big as 5/6 to score but this looks like it could be a hard-fought one or two-nil win for the top flight side.

Michael Beale has had a mixed start to his tenure as Sunderland boss. League form reads LWDWL plus there was that 3-0 derby defeat to Newcastle.

There’s little between themselves and tonight’s opponents Hull City, just one point in fact, and the Black Cats were victors when the two sides met on Boxing Day.

The Tigers have won just one of their last seven and exited the FA Cup in a midweek replay defeat to Birmingham.

Six of the last eight meetings between the clubs have finished and that might be a result that suits both sides at 13/5 but we’re backing Sunderland to edge this one at 10/11 largely due to the visitors lengthy absentee list in the striking department which leaves them short on attacking option.

Got Toney back macca but there in shocking form

    • maccathered 4 months ago

That’s why they have been in shocking form no striker, Toney back will make all the difference. I don’t know why you pointed out they are in shocking form to be honest., before I bet I cover most angles.

    • Deano86 4 months ago

Why would i not point out there in bad form , forms a big part of why most people would back a team , Toneys also bene out for 8 months he’s hardly guna transform Brentford straight away on his own

    • maccathered 4 months ago

He won’t give the team a big lift then?? There are other reasons to back a team other than just form.

I remember 1990 and the World Cup in Italy. It was so many countries favorite tournament that’s why us in Ireland believe it was the best World Cup ever. Ireland and Cameroon were the teams of the tournament (along with England, Italy, German & Argentina) and both nations feel they won the World Cup in a funny kind of way. I remember watching Cameroon play England and at half time in the last 16 encounter Cameroon were leading 2-0 and it looked bad for England as they had just been outplayed completely by the Africans. However, as we all know England got the 3 goals they needed in the second half and progressed and would eventually lose to the tournament winners Germany in the semi finals (it should have been Diego Maradona’s 3rd World Cup, they lost in the final and in’82 England “kicked” an 18 year old boy out of the tournament, ’86 will live forever).

Anyway, to business and this one is mostly because I have a soft spot for Cameroon. Some say their not the best Cameroon side, but in a group stage match, with the win and the draw on my side I think this will win.

    Cameroon double chance 4/5.

Get on it like a car bonnet.

I’d say Toney will be chomping at the bit to get back on the football pitch, a big tournament coming up and he’ll want to put his name in the hat for. Bigger clubs are desperate for strikers and he’ll surely leave Brentford in the summer if he rediscovers his form. I’ll call it no and say Brentford’s form picks up with Toney in the team.

maccathered I have been thinking about what you said, about Liverpool this season and our chances of becoming League Champions. Part of me agrees with what you had to say about how, with our side in transition it would be a great achievement to win the title so early in the teams development. However do you not think that with the 3 best players in the world currently in the Liverpool team Salah, Van Dijk & Alisson we should be confident with our chances in the league this year.

Early one for tomorrow, Scottish cup Livvy v Raith……how on earth are raith 27/10 at a team who haven’t won in months. Raith been in good form albeit a blip or two in recent weeks, but surely worth a punt at those odds. In the same vein surely Partick away to Ross Co at 5/2 for same reasons is worth a look as well. Prices may well shorten so might be worth an early go at them (weather permitting of course).

    Raith win 27/10 NAP
    Partick win 5/2 NB
Raith/Partick double touch under 12/1 LONGSHOT.

Understand your reasons here, but you have to accept that it won,t be Livvys poor performances for the last cuppla months that will determine the outcome here, it will be determined on how they perform when they get out there tomorrow that counts..

My own facies are Motherwell and Hibs which paid a tad under Evens on Sunday night when odds came out for a dooble against opposition 2 leagues below them .
