Bournemouth vs LiverpoolEnglish Premier League, KO: 16:30 Jan 21, 2024, Vitality Stadium
PREMIER League leaders Liverpool face a real test of their title aspirations when they travel to the south coast to face an entertaining Bournemouth side.
Jurgen Klopp's side are two points clear at the top of the league and there's no doubt they are in flag-winning form after four wins in a row including a 2-0 victory at Arsenal in the FA Cup.
They have lost just once in the league this season, at Spurs and that was way back in September. The Reds have been a model of consistency for the most part, with perhaps a home goalless draw against a Manchester United side they were expected to maul being their only disappointment of late.
However, they will know they face a real challenge at the Vitality against the refreshed Cherries side who have had a 15-day break.
They have won six of their last eight games and their only defeat was at Spurs. And to be honest, that 3-1 defeat was a travesty, with the visitors having 13 shots and winning 13 corners in London. They actually dominated for spells.
They have goals in them and so do Liverpool of course, so this should be a very watchable affair.
How the bookies view it
Recent head to heads
Liverpool have won both games this season in the league and Carabao Cup by 3-1 and 2-1 scorelines.
And last season, Liverpool crushed them 9-0 at Anfield although Bournemouth got a measure of revenge with a 1-0 win at home.
Players to watch
Dominic Solanke has enjoyed a fantastic season for Bournemouth with 13 goals which included six last month. The ex-Liverpool kid is 9/4 to score anytime on Sunday.
With Mo Salah on African Cup of Nations duty with Egypt, Liverpool will be looking for Cody Gakpo to build on the ten goals he's scored so far this season. He is 43/20 to score anytime with UniBet.
Anything else catch the eye?
Goals have to be the way ahead here. Bournemouth love to attack, but the downside of that is they give up plenty of opportunities which should lead to goals at both ends.
Unfortunately, both teams to score and over 2.5 goals are very short at around the 1/2 mark for both and even combining them is as short as 8/11.
So go for over 3.5 goals at 6/5 with Paddy Power.
Finally, the famous old chant of ‘Boscombe, back of the net' whenever Bournemouth win a corner should be heard plenty of times on Sunday. As stated, they won 13 corners at Spurs, if they can win seven or more William Hill will pay 9/2.
