The EFL Cup is kicking off before the league season in England this season and there's a cracking all-Championship tie tonight as Middlesbrough host Wrexham.

The Welsh side's fairytale rise through the divisions finally halted last term but they only just missed out on a place in the play-offs.

Boro made it all the way to the play-off final, albeit only as result of Southampton being booted out due to Spygate, and will be targeting promotion this term after being pipped at the post by Hull City.

Middlesbrough vs Wrexham top betting tips

Middlesbrough bowed out of the EFL Cup early last term, crashing out 4-0 against Doncaster Rovers, but they should take this tie more seriously as the league campaign has yet to begin.

After such a high turnover in recent seasons, Wrexham have opted for stability this summer and their only major signing so far has been Danny Imray.

Middlesbrough have been busier and Will Lanskhear could end up being a shrewd signing after netting 12 times for Oxford United last term.

The 21-year-old should give Boro more of a cutting edge and he's 13/10 to get off the mark in his first competitive game.

These sides faced off on the final weekend of the regular Championship season and it ended in a 2-2 draw. That bodes well for an exciting opener to this campaign and combining BTTS and over 2.5 goals pays 21/20 at Bet365.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Port Vale

It will be fascinating to see how Wolverhampton Wanderers react to crashing out of the Premier League and they have a relatively easy start to the new campaign at home to Port Vale in the EFL Cup.

Everyone was expecting Wolves to regroup under Rob Edwards and bounce straight back up but the manager was surprisingly axed and replaced by Cesar Peixoto

There hasn't been a mass exodus of players yet, with Joao Gomes the only notable sale to Aston Villa, so the Molineux men should have too much quality for Port Vale.

The pain of relegation is also still stinging for the Valiants after tumbling into League Two and they're 9/1 outsiders for a Molineux win.

Peixoto should get off to a winning start and combining a Wolves victory with a clean sheet pays a decent evens at Bet365.

Partick Thistle vs Livingston

There's a cracker in the SPFL Championship tonight as the two sides leading the betting for title glory slug it out at Firhill.

Livingston are favourites to bounce back up after relegation last term but Partick Thistle aren't too far behind them after coming so close in the play-offs in recent seasons.

Both made winning starts last weekend, with the Lions beating Queen's Park 2-0 at home while Thistle ground out a 1-0 victory away to troubled Morton.

With each team keeping clean sheets in their opening game it could be tight tonight and the half-time draw appeals at 21/20 with Bet365. That bet landed when Partick beat Livingston on penalties in the League Cup group stage a few weeks ago.

The 11/10 on offer with the same firm for Livingston to win either half also appeals as they looked pretty decent in that victory over the Spiders last weekend.
