Whilst all eyes are trained on Qatar for the next month the domestic game continues in the lower leagues and tonight the focus is at Fratton Park where Portsmouth welcome Derby County in League One.
We're approaching the half-way stage of the campaign and both sides are up there battling for a play-off place. Given they're a good 14 points off top spot it's probably the best either can hope for.
Derby have had an eventful four weeks in which they've crammed in nine matches. Sandwiched in between a draw with, and susequent 5-0 thrashing on Tuesday, of non-league Torquay was a creditable 0-0 draw at Anfield which ultimately ended in a penalty shoot-out exit in the Carabao Cup.
However, they're unbeaten in in four in the league but you just wonder if that punishing schedule will catch up with them eventually.
Hosts Pompey have been draw specialists of late, sharing in the points in four of their last six league outings as well as tying with AFC Wimbledon over 90 minutes in the cup. They're one of just two teams who still boast an unbeaten home record in League One and that's enough to edge us towards a win for Danny Cowley's side at 11/8.

I’ve no idea when the Singapore football season begins or ends. However It would appear to be the 3rd/4th place playoff today in the cup between the team who finished top during the league campaign with a +45 goal difference (88 for and 43 against) and the team who finished 7th (2nd bottom) in the league with a -33 goal difference (45 for and 78 against) in only 28 league matches.
Worth noting Albirex Niigata only beat Balestier Khalsa 1-0 in the group stages of the cup less than a month ago however prior to this their H2H record stands at 5-3, 4-1, 2-1, 6-0, 4-0 and 4-1 all in favour of Albirex Niigata. Balestier Khalsa also lost 8-1 in the first leg of the semi finals a week ago to Tampines Rovers who finished 3rd in the league.
If my guess is right (and my knowledge of Singaporean football isn’t great other than it usually produces goal) then this is a meaningless end of season affair for both sides and 3rd/4th place playoffs means teams are usually already got their mind on the ⛱️ (where I’d like to be right now with this weather).
