Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on England in Scotland. I’m expecting these two home sides to be too strong for their struggling opponents.

Dagenham & Redbridge vs Dover Athletic

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 National League

⏰ Sunday 2nd January, 15:00
Dagenham & Redbridge will look to put pressure on the sides above them in the table as they play host to a poor Dover Athletic side. The hosts come into this in 8th, just one point outside the playoff places. The visitors, on the other hand, are rooted to the foot of the table and are a massive 24 points points from safety.

Dagenham & Redbridge secured a 1-0 victory over Aldershot last time out to make it three wins on the bounce for the Daggers. Daryl McMahon’s side are actually the top scorers in the National League, scoring 40 goals in their opening 21 matches. The Daggers are also the top scorers at home this season, with 26 of their 40 goals coming at Victoria Road. Dagenham have scored two or more goals in eight of their nine matches against sides in 15th and below, including in the reverse fixture on Boxing Day.

Dover Athletic lost once again last time out, as they fell to a 3-2 defeat away to Woking. Andy Hessenthaler’s side have now lost 13 of their last 14 matches in the National League and have only avoided defeat four time all season, collecting four draws. It therefore comes as no surprise that Dover have the worst defensive record in the National League, with The Whites conceding 48 goals from their first 21 matches. 28 of those goals they’ve conceded have came away from home, with the Kent based club conceding on multiple occasions in 8/10.

Kelty Hearts vs Cowdenbeath

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 League 2

⏰ Sunday 2nd January, 15:00

Kelty Hearts will look to maintain their lead at the top of the Scottish League 2 table as they play host to bottom side Cowdenbeath. The hosts are currently seven points clear of 2nd placed Forfar Athletic and a have a game in hand, whilst the visitors are bottom, seven points adrift of the side above them.

Kelty Hearts suffered their first league defeat of the season, being thumped 5-1 by Annan Athletic, with the league leaders going down to 10 men on the stroke of half time, when the score was 1-1. Prior to that defeat, The Jambos had won nine of their last 10 in the league, including each of their last five. Kevin Thomson’s side have a strong home record, taking 23 points out of a possible 27. Kelty have conceded just four goals at home this season, with six of their seven victories at home seeing fewer than four goals.

Cowdenbeath conceded late on last time out, as they fell to a 1-2 defeat at home to Edinburgh City. That’s now just one win in their last 16 matches in the league for the Blue Brazil, losing 11 of them. Maurice Ross’s side have collected just 10 points from their opening 18 matches in League 2 this season, with just two of those points coming away from home. Cowdenbeath are the lowest scorers in the league (11), with only three of those coming away from home. All 12 of Cowdenbeath’s defeats have saw fewer than five goals this season, including all seven away from home.

Bet of the Day

Dagenham & Redbridge will be looking to keep the pressure on the sides above them in the table and they’ll eye up Dover Athletic as the perfect opponents. The whites have conceded a league high 48 goals already this season and will struggle to keep out a Dagenham & Redbridge who are the league’s top scorers. The Daggers have scored at least twice in 8/9 matches this season against sides in 15th and below and I’m expecting them to 2+ at Victoria Park against their struggling opponents. Kelty Hearts will look to get back to winning ways here as they host a struggling Cowdenbeath side. The Blue Brazil have earned just two points from their opening nine matches away from home and with Kelty winning 7/9 on home turf, Kevin Thomson’s side should collect all three points. Given that six of the home sides seven victories at New Central Park have saw fewer than five goals, coupled up with the fact that all 12 of Cowdenbeath’s defeats have also saw fewer than five goals, I’m happy to add in under 4.5 goals along with a Kelty Hearts win.
