Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me delve into the Italian Serie A and there’s a match that stands out to me for goals.

 Empoli vs Hellas Verona

🇮🇹 Serie A

⏰ Sunday 20th March, 14:00

Two sides in Serie A currently sitting in mid-table meet at the Stadio Carlo Castellani, as Empoli host Hellas Verona. The hosts are positioned in 13th, 10 points above the relegation zone, whilst the visitors are in 9th, just eight points behind 5th-placed Lazio.

Empoli winless run was extended to 12 matches last time out, as they lost 1-0 away to league leaders Milan. Empoli have collected just 11 of their 32 points at the Castellani this season (W3-D2-L9) and come into losing four of their last five on home turf. Empoli have kept just five clean sheets so far this season and are still to record their first at home. Only bottom side Salernitana have conceded more goals than Aurelio Andreazzoli’s side (54), with 37 of those coming at home (worst in the league). Empoli have scored in 22/29 of their league fixtures, with the Azzurri failing to score just twice at home. Empoli have scored in each of their last eight at home, finding the back of the net on multiple occasions in six of them.

Hellas Verona saw their four-match unbeaten run come to an end last time out, as they lost 1-2 at home to title-chasing Napoli. Igor Tudor’s side have collected 15 points on their travels so far this season (W3-D6-L5), with eight of those coming in their last five matches. Verona have found the back of the net in all bar four of their 29 matches in Serie A this season, scoring in 10 of their last 11. Only the two Milan clubs (62 & 56), Lazio (58) and Sassuolo (55) have out-scored Hellas, with the Gialloblu scoring 54 times. Verona have recorded just three clean sheets in Serie A so far this season, with neither of them coming away from home.

Bet of the Day

Two of Serie A’s most entertaining sides meet at the Castellani and we should expect to see more goals between both Empoli and Hellas Verona. Aurelio Andreazzoli’s hosts have found the back of the net in each of their last eight at home, scoring two or more in six of those, whereas Hellas have scored in 25 of their 29 fixtures in Serie A this season, scoring 54 goals. Neither side are particularly strong at the back, with The Azzurri still yet to keep a clean sheet at home, whilst the visitors have recorded all three of their clean sheets at home. These two have conceded 100 goals between them and given both sides records in front of goal, it’s likely we’ll see a flurry of goals here, therefore I’m happy to back over 2.5 goals with both sides contributing in what should be a high-scoring match in Tuscany.
