Football Bet of the Day: Austin to have too much firepower for their Texan rivals

Wednesday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me head to the MLS and I reckon the hosts will have too much firepower for their poor-travelling opponents in this Texan derby. To boost the price up, I’ve added in a cards-based angle to form an appealing looking bet builder

Austin know they will leapfrog LAFC at the top of the Western Conference table if they collect all three points at home to Texan rivals Houston Dynamo at the Q2 Stadium in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Austin extended their unbeaten run to five matches and their winning run to three last time out, as they secured an impressive 0-3 victory away to Atlanta United. Despite their impressive run of form, Josh Wolff’s side have failed to win each of their last three fixtures at home, having to come from two goals down to rescue a point in each of their last two against Orlando City and FC Dallas. The Verde and Black have found the back of the net in 17/19 of their league fixtures this season and are the joint-top scorers in the whole of the MLS, scoring on 38 occasions. Austin’s opponents have been shown multiple cards in 14/19 of their league fixtures this season, including 7/8 when playing at home.

Houston Dynamo secured a dramatic point against another one of their Texan rivals last time out, as they scored 11 minutes into stoppage-time to draw 2-2 at home to FC Dallas. After losing just one of their opening seven league matches (W3-D3-L1), Paulo Nagamura’s side have gone on to lose eight of their next 12, including five of their last six on their travels. El Naranja have registered just a solitary clean sheet on their travels this season, conceding on multiple occasions in five of their last six road trips. The Dynamo have received two or more cards in 18/19 of their MLS fixtures this season, including in all eight away from home.

Not only are these two sides at opposite ends of the Western Conference table, but they come into this in contrasting form, with Austin having won four of their last five, whilst Houston have won just one and lost four of their last six. Josh Wolff’s hosts are the joint-top scorers in MLS with 38 goals and I like the look of them to bag their fourth brace from their last five home fixtures against a Houston side that lost five of their last six on their travels, conceding on multiple occasions in each of those defeats. The Dynamo have been shown multiple cards in 18/19 of their MLS fixtures this season and with this also being a derby, I’m happy to add in the visitors to collect at least two cards along with the hosts to find the back of the net at least twice to form a solid looking bet builder.
