carlingcup

THERE are three Carling Cup matches on Wednesday plus a host of Johnstone's Paint Trophy matches.

I posted my early thoughts last night and here are my selections after scanning the latest team news.

Carling Cup games are tough to call but Johnstone's Paint games are harder than picking six numbers in the lottery.

In the Carling Cup the best bets look to be Southampton who seem to be fielding a decent enough side at Paolo di Canio's Swindon.

Southampton have started the season brilliantly in the Championship and face a side who have suffered four defeats in their last five games. Back Saints at 5-6 with Ladbrokes.

The signs are that Carlisle are also playing most of their first-choice players as they try to protect an unbeaten start to the season.

The won the Johnstone's Paint Trophy last year so have some recent pedigree in cup contests. Aldershot beat West Ham away in the previous round so can't be dismissed but I like Carlisle at
6-4 with bet365, Ladbrokes and Chandler.

The third and final tie is possibly the toughest to call with at Orient at home to Bristol Rovers.

Orient haven't won a game this season so should probably be bigger than evens.

They have conceded 10 in their last three games so if League Two Rovers make the step up they could have a chance. They are a best 11-4 at totesport.

Many managers, such as MK Dons', will field weakened teams in the Johnstone's Paints to tread warily but rules state they must play at least six regulars or face fines.

For that reason I'm looking at Bury (3-4, Chandler) v Crewe, Colchester (4-6, William Hill) v Barnet) and Scunthorpe (21-20, William Hill) v Hartlepool.

Best bet tonight could be to go with both teams to score. Try this treble – Burton v Sheffield Utd at 4-5 with bodog, Colchester v Barnet at 8-11 with Paddy Power and Walsall v Shrewsbury at
4-5 with bet365.

Recommendations

Treble – Bury, Colchester, Southampton

Super Single – Southampton

Both teams to score – Burton, v Sheff Utd, Colchester v Barnet, Walsall v Shrewsbury

Cheers. Managed another treble for everyone last night on what was an almost impossible card.
