While many punters naturally gravitate towards backing a winner, betting on a draw can be a smart and rewarding alternative.

This is because bookmakers typically assign bigger odds to stalemates, which occur less often than victories for either team.

With that in mind, let’s examine this weekend’s fixtures and identify the games where draw outcomes present the best value.

Crewe vs Rochdale (Saturday, 15:00)

A close contest could be on the cards when Crewe Alexandra play host to Rochdale in League Two on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts have won each of their last two league matches, having previously endured a remarkable six-game run of consecutive draws.

Another share of the spoils could be on the cards against a Rochdale side that earned a 1-1 draw away to Tranmere last weekend. The Dale also drew 0-0 away to Walsall last month, further strengthening the case for honours even at Mornflake Stadium.

Tranmere vs Barnet (Saturday, 15:00)

Barnet’s three-match winning run in League Two will face a stern test away to a Tranmere side that has proved difficult to beat this season.

Although Tranmere sit in mid-table, they have lost only two of their opening 10 league games, drawing six. Notably, three of those draws have come on home soil, including each of their last two matches in front of their own supporters.

As for Barnet, they have drawn two of their four league games on the road this season, making another stalemate at Prenton Park a realistic possibility.

Newport vs York City (Saturday, 15:00)

Another League Two fixture that could finish level on Saturday is Newport County’s clash with York City. The two sides begin the weekend separated by just two points in the table, so there could be fine margins when they lock horns at Rodney Parade.

Moreover, four of Newport’s last six league games have ended in draws, including home stalemates against Tranmere and Fleetwood.

York City, meanwhile, come into the clash after a 1-1 home draw with Northampton and have drawn two of their four away league games this season. Notably, all three of the Minstermen’s draws this season have ended 1-1, making the same scoreline a strong runner in south-east Wales.
