Matchday 1 and the Champions League has thrown up a tie between two behemoths of European Football.
They don’t come much bigger than 6-time winners Bayern Munich versus 3-time winners Manchester United, a fixture with rich back-stories and no shortage of subplots.
England captain Harry Kane has has already made his mark in Munich with four goals in his first five appearances and he looks nailed on to score against the Premier League side but he’s just 8/11 to find the net this evening.

INTER stands out as the best bet of the day for me. They’ve been on an upward trajectory for over a year now, making the final of the Champions League last May, to many peoples surprise but if you watch Italian football you’ll see the big improvement in their form. They’ve started the season where they left off, on fire and recently thrashed their city rivals Milan. (the same Milan who dominated Newcastle last night, and should have won by a few goals). Their record in the CL is pretty impressive anyway, even going back several seasons and they’ll be expecting to cruise thru their group.
An away trip to Spain in their first game is not the easiest of fixtures but Real Sociedad are inexperienced at this level and not a side that would frighten many teams. As always, the draw is the danger when backing Spanish or Italian sides and the home side will probably set up for that, so I’m going for the Draw-no-bet option as the best value here.
I’ve taken INTER draw no bet at 1.76 (just over 8/11 in old money) on the exchange.
I’ve also layed Sociedad at 9/4, for a smaller amount, but I see the value bet as Inter draw-no-bet, so that’s where the bulk of my stake is going.

Expecting Union Berlin to play with a low block and defend in numbers in order to try and frustrate the home side. Without Vinicius Jr and with a small number of attacking options available to the home side they may face a difficult task this evening breaking down the away side. You would expect the home side to have the majority of the ball in this one. Based on that I like two selections and that is Bayern corners and United tackles. Bayern’s opponents are averaging just shy of 24 tackles per game so far this season due to how much of the ball Bayern have. Added to this United are averaging just over 17 tackles per game. Away to Spurs this season they managed 22 tackles and with them likely chasing the game I like them to see similar numbers tonight. Bayern play with a lot of width and as United will be quite defensive at the start hoping this results in some corners for the home side.
