I WAS feeling bad about Spurs' defeat against Norwich – until I read about these two guys.

Two betting shop customers, one from Glasgow, the other from Lye, West Midlands, each missed out on a £372,000 payout for a £1 bet on Coral’s Football Jackpot thanks to Spurs' failure.

Both customers had correctly predicted the outcome of the first 14 of the 15 matches on the Football Jackpot coupon and were the last remaining customers in line to share the £772,683 pool.

The two “near-miss” customers will share the consolation pool, with one other customer, for missing out by one on the Football Jackpot and will get £5999 each.

Coral spokesman Simon Clare said: “You have to feel desperately sorry for these two punters who came so close to winning life-changing sums of money.

“It must have been the most incredible, and ultimately agonising, rollercoaster ride for both of them as the Liverpool and Newcastle wins were incredible nail-biters, and then watched Spurs spurn loads of chances on route to costing them the monster payout.

“Both customers will receive just shy of six grand as a consolation for missing out by one but it will be scant consolation.

“Given how close they have come, and the dramatic nature of their near miss, we will offer both customers a VIP trip to a Coral horse race sponsorship.

“The Glasgow-based customer will get a VIP invitation to the Coral Scottish Grand National at Ayr on April 13 and the customer from Lye be invited to Coral Cup day on March 12 at the Cheltenham Festival.”

The Coral Football Jackpot will rollover to next weekend with an anticipated pool of between £900,000 and £1,000,000 up for grabs.

Customers have to do is correctly predict the outcome of the 15 football matches on the Football jackpot coupon for a £1 stake.

There are also consolation payouts to customers who miss out by one and who miss out by two.

Should have hedged the bet for a win/win situation, lay Spurs on Betfair.
Subject of course to knowing what approx returns would have been.

Interesting to know what profit this is generating.
    Great publicity for this Bookmaker.

oneborneveryminute, it’s good publicity for Coral and a bit of fun for punters for just £1 and there have been a few big winners. You don’t need to knock them – don’t try it if you don’t like it.

Also think that both punters would have been happy to accept £5999 for their pounds when placing the bets. A lot better than a zero return.

Also possible Corals did allow them to cover the bets but keep that part quiet. No need to tell us that as it is the fact you can win big for a pound that matters.

raaljaca, Coral I’m sure would allow them to cover but only if the punter wanted to and approached them about it. I know they try to contact punters who are in that position but imagine they enticed them to cover and the bet came up.

Good point Mr F. Personally I would have no hesitation in covering to guarantee £170,000+ pay out knowing I could be looking at only £6000.

Mr F,Well i hear you often say you could have covered your bet, with the potential big win,
a bit like Deal or no Deal, this in my view was the time to do it.

As for a bit of fun,i’m sure Coral is laughing all the way to the Bank.
Has anyone worked out the odds for a 14 acca they had up,as for a value, for Coral yes .

Oneborn, would you like everyone on here to start a Register of Interests? What people do or are involved in are irrelevant on here as we only post tips etc. Nobody is sold anything or given misinformation. Why not post something constructive?

oneborneveryminute, I don’t like your tone to be honest. As far as I’m aware Coral’s Football Jackpot payout depends on how many players there are. I know they lost money early in the season when they guaranteed £1m to the first winner. As I said if you don’t like it don’t do it.
