REMEMBER Terry Gibson? Well, we've signed him and while he won't be kicking a football he'll be looking into his crystal ball and bringing us his best Spanish tips every week.
The ex-Spurs, Coventry and Manchester United striker is probably best remembered for his time as part of the infamous Wimbledon Crazy Gang side of the late 80s and early 90s. Now an expert in all things La Liga he works as a pundit and co-commentator on Sky Sports’ Spanish football coverage and is a contributor to unibet.
Here are Terry's tips for games on Wednesday and Thursday.
Atletico Madrid v Leganes (Wed, 8.30pm)
This will be only the fourth top-flight meeting between these two teams and it’s fair to say none of them yet have been a classic. We have seen two goalless draws at the Butarque and a 2-0 home victory for Atletico last season in the old Vicente Calderon.
Leganes continue to try to inch their way to safety and it’s reasonable to suggest they are cautious! It’s Los Blancos, their tally for the season is only at 21. They actually make Atletico look prolific!
It was a great win on Sunday evening away at Sevilla for Diego Simeone’s team and I’m convinced they will be fully focused on the job in hand in this one. It’s maybe the title decider next weekend when Atleti go to the Nou Camp and it’s important Atleti go there at the weekend maintaining at worst the seven-point deficit to have any chance of catching them this season.
Antoine Griezmann scored a superb hat-trick on Sunday and the partnership is beginning to click now between him and Diego Costa.
I’m not going to expect another five-goal haul from Atletico but I’m going to go for a relatively comfortable home win by a 2-0 scoreline. I went for Costa at the weekend and I’m going to back him to get the opener in this game again.
Terry's Tips
- Atletico Madrid (37-10, Unibet)
- Costa to score first (27-10, Unibet)
- Atletico to win (1-4, Unibet)
Real Betis vs Real Sociedad (Thu, 6.30pm)
This could be a classic but I must confess I’m not entirely sure which way this one will go! These two teams have accumulated between them more than 200 goals for and against this season in games they have played in all competitions.
Their first meeting this season was a 4-4 draw at Real Sociedad and I believe this game is all about goals in total. I have no doubt this match has every chance of emulating the fantastic affair in October.
I would probably just favour Betis with home advantage and will probably tip them for the victory but with what scoreline without me appearing to be ridiculous. I’m going to go for at least eight goals in this game and go with the 5-3 Betis win and that’s a pretty standard scoreline for both of these teams this season.
First scorer is a tough call with both teams being so open but you may as well go with one of the more likelier candidates.
For Betis that would be Sergio Leon, for Real Sociedad with no Willian Jose then you may as well go for likely replacement Imanol Agirretxe. Good luck!
Terry's Tips
- Betis to win 5-3 (130-1, Unibet)
- Castro to score first (11-2, Unibet)
- Over 6.5 match goals (16-1, Unibet)
Las Palmas v Barcelona (Thu, 8pm)
This should be pretty straightforward indeed for Valverde’s Barcelona although Las Palmas have shown slight signs they are improving.
They are not conceding as many goals in recent games and Paco Jemez has given them some sort of direction in terms of style of play.
Their chances of staying up though have been severely dented in the fact their best player Jonathan Viera has now departed to play in the Chinese Super League.
Barcelona still remain unbeaten in La Liga and this would be a gigantic shock if this is anything other than a comfortable away win. Three games in a week plays havoc with the teams in this league that are not used to doing so and Las Palmas fall into that category.
It was a trip to Madrid at the weekend to play at Leganes and then it’s another trip from Gran Canaria to Vigo at the weekend to face Celta. The big guys such as Barcelona can cope and I’m going to go with an emphatic away win by at least 3-0.
With the game at the weekend against Atletico coming up it’s critical Barca don’t slip up in this one. It will be interesting to see who starts in this game for Barcelona, Luís Suerez is one booking away from suspension against Atletico so it will be interesting to see what Valverde chooses to do regarding him.
Consider the likes of Dembele, Coutinho and Paco Alcacer as first scorers or you can always stick with Messi.
Terry's Tips
- Barcelona to win 3-0 (7-1, Unibet)
- Messi to score first (23-10, Unibet)
- Over 3.5 match goals (17-10, Unibet)

First, I do not understand – you place Barcelona to win 0-3 and then Over 3.5 goals? As the CS is clearly saying Under 3.5
Second, your previews are really good, the preview for Villareall was a high-class one but here something tells me there will be not even 2 goals on Betis – Sociedad game I belive 0-1 or 1-0 but I love brave tips like this – so I am with you.
