SlipsTips shares a selection ahead of Man City’s clash with PSG in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Man City vs PSG (Wednesday 20:00)
There’s a blockbuster Champions League tie at the Etihad on Wednesday night as Manchester City play host to Paris Saint-Germain.
City finally conquered Europe in 2023, but have not come close to repeating that success since.
PSG, by contrast, became only the second club in the current era of the Champions League to win back-to-back titles last season, beating Arsenal on penalties in the final.
I’ve already covered this Etihad showdown in a separate match preview, but I’m now taking a closer look at one of the selections I outlined.
The 10/11 on bet365 for Nuno Mendes to be fouled 2+ times looks particularly attractive, given his ability to win free kicks.
Mendes is the epitome of a modern-day full-back and has arguably been the best left-back in world football over the last couple of seasons.
The licence he is given to get forward sees him come in for plenty of close attention, which naturally leads to him winning free kicks.
We have already seen evidence of that in Ligue 1 this season, with Mendes fouled six times across his two appearances for PSG.
Last season’s figures further highlight his ability to draw fouls, with averages of 1.80 in Ligue 1 and 1.41 in the Champions League.
Mendes was also a reliable source of free kicks for Portugal at the World Cup earlier this summer, being fouled multiple times in four of his five appearances.
His ball-carrying ability and tendency to move into inverted areas could see him cross paths with Enzo Fernandez, which strengthens the case for this selection.
The all-action Argentine has committed nine fouls across his last four appearances for City, including three away to Porto on matchday one, making 10/11 with bet365 for Mendes to be fouled 2+ times look like excellent value.
