Bet 2 – Burnley vs Charlton Athletic – Tuesday 13th October at 19:45
Burnley welcome Charlton to Turf Moor on Tuesday evening, looking to make home advantage count against a visiting side whose defensive performances have been among the more concerning in the Championship this season.
The Clarets have scored in all four of their home league fixtures, demonstrating a level of consistency that makes them an attractive proposition in the team goals market. Their underlying attacking numbers are less impressive, with Burnley averaging 1.19 expected goals (xG) per home match, but they have nevertheless found a way past every visiting defence.
Charlton's away record provides further encouragement. The visitors have conceded in all four of their Championship matches on the road, with their defensive performances producing an average of 2.25 expected goals against (xGA) per fixture.
That figure is particularly significant because it suggests Charlton's problems extend beyond simply conceding goals. They are allowing opponents to create high-quality opportunities on a regular basis, which should provide Burnley with chances to maintain their perfect home scoring record.
Charlton have also struggled to impose themselves offensively away from home, averaging just 0.63 xG per match. While that figure does not directly determine whether Burnley will score, it suggests the visitors may find it difficult to sustain attacking pressure and prevent Burnley from enjoying spells of possession in dangerous areas.
The strongest evidence comes from combining the two relevant records. Burnley have scored in four of four home matches, while Charlton have conceded in four of four away fixtures.
Although Burnley's attacking xG is relatively modest, Charlton's defensive numbers make this a favourable matchup for the hosts. Burnley to score at least once is therefore a selection supported by both teams' performances so far.
