SlipsTips examines the Bet Builder market ahead of Rennes' clash with Marseille in Ligue 1 on Saturday night.
Rennes vs Marseille (Saturday, 20:00)
Rennes and Marseille will do battle in an intriguing-looking Ligue 1 clash at Roazhon Park on Saturday night.
Jorge Sampaoli’s 13th-placed side will be looking to rebound from last weekend’s 3-2 defeat away at Nice.
As for second in the table Marseille, they made it four wins from five last Sunday with a resounding 5-1 success against Le Havre.
Over 1 Goal
Entertainment should be plentiful in Brittany on Saturday night, with two or more match goals looking like a sensible starting point for the Bet Builder. Roberto De Zerbi’s commitment to an attack-minded brand of football has coincided with Marseille’s matches proving particularly goal-heavy this season. In fact, all bar one of the Olympians’ 15 Ligue 1 matches this season have featured two or more goals, with a sizable 11 of those contests breaking through the over 2.5 goals barrier.
There is plenty of scope for that trend to continue when Marseille take on a Rennes side that have seen 13 of their 16 French top-flight fixtures this season generate at least two match strikes, including seven of their eight assignments in front of their own supporters.
Over 2 Cards
With a keenly-contested fixture anticipated on Saturday night, I’m happy to throw a minimum of three match cards into the equation. Rennes’ Ligue 1 outings this season are producing an average of 4.38 cards per-game, while Marseille are not too far behind with their tally of 4.06.
What’s more, Marseille have already been shown an eye-watering five red cards this season, not to mention three of their opponents have also been reduced to 10-men this term. Given that this contest comes with the intriguing subplot of former Marseille boss Sampaoli recently taking the reins at Rennes, tempers could boil over during this tussle.
On top of all that, referee Abdelatif Kherradji is averaging north of three cards per 90 in Ligue 1 this term, covering the 3+ line in five of his seven assignments this season so far.
Over 5 Corners
In a game that promises plenty of goalmouth action, a minimum of six match corners should be well within range at Roazhon Park. Rennes are among the most prolific corner takers in Ligue 1 this term, averaging 5.44 per-game. Drill deeper and it can be seen that the Red and Blacks’ flag-kick average increases to 6.38 per 90 when going about their business at their Brittany base.
While Marseille have not been as reliable on the corner kick front, their Ligue 1 matches this season are still producing an average of 7.25 corners per-game, and a repeat here would be enough to cover this proposed leg of the Bet Builder.
