CRAWLEY were an enemy of the people last weekend but today they could be a punter’s best pal.
Richie Barker’s side downed thousands of accumulators when they shocked Peterborough with a 2-0 away win.
Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony slammed the Hoops for upsetting the mood in the dressing room with three bids last Saturday for striker Lee Tomlin.
The Posh started with Tomlin but hauled him off after an ineffective hour – and the whole team were flat.
Crediting Celtic for the result is of course a little unfair to Crawley whose form suggests they should take care of Gillingham at home today.
Barker’s boys were praised for the football they played in going down to an injury-time Leigh Griffiths penalty at Wolves and in six games have netted 13 but conceded the same amount.
However, keeping a clean sheet against rampant Peterborough and pushing Wolves all the way will have lifted confidence and I’ll be on Crawley.
It’s not the easiest of days – especially for punters who like to bet on the Premier League and Championship – but I’ve taken a long look at the Football League and Conference and hopefully have picked out some winners.
Chesterfield are another side going well and sit top of League Two after four wins and a draw.
It’s top v bottom today with visitors Accrington having picked up just one point and conceded 11 goals in their five games.
Stanley have drawn a blank in their last four matches and have a poor record a Chesterfield, losing four of their last five and conceding an average of three goals.
My top treble features Crawley and Chesterfield and to it I’m adding Rotherham at home to Sheffield Utd.
Rotherham have lost just once this season and face a Blades outfit who haven’t picked up a victory since the opening day of the campaign.
It’s been a terrible start for Davie Weir’s men and already the former Scotland defender must be feeling the heat.
