St Mirren vs Hibernian

, KO: 15:00 Dec 11, 2021, St Mirren Park
Hibernian

HIBS will be hoping a change of manager can get them back on track after Premiership slump but won't get it easy in Paisley against a St Mirren side desperate to end their own slide down the table.

Jack Ross was axed by Hibs in the wake of Wednesday's 1-0 loss at Livingston, which made it just one win in their last nine league games.

I tipped both teams to score in West Lothian but the Hibees bust my coupon by missing a penalty and capped a miserable night by ending the game with nine men after red cards for Paul McGinn and Paul Hanlon.

That means their defence will be decimated for this trip to Paisley and another defeat would leave morale at rock bottom ahead of the League Cup Final with Celtic.

St Mirren are also desperate for a victory, having gone eight games with a win in the Premiership. They were battered 4-1 by Aberdeen last weekend and hopes of a top-six finish will vanish unless they end this alarming slump.

A lack of firepower has hurt them, with the Buddies failing to score more than once in their last six matches, and Jim Goodwin needs to find a way to get the goals flowing again.

How the bookies view it

With both sides in dismal form it's a tough one to call and many punters will fancy the stalemate at 21/10 with Coral. St Mirren are 9/5 with Bet365 and Hibs 15/8 shots at Betfair.

Recent head to head

Hibernian have been a bogey team for St Mirren of late and have gone 11 games unbeaten against them. Four of those matches ended in stalemates, including a 2-2 draw at Easter Road earlier this season (below).

Hibs won both league games in Paisley last term, with a 3-0 victory early in the campaign followed by a 2-1 triumph back in February.

Players to watch

St Mirren have been rocked by an injury to striker Eamonn Brophy and he looks set to be sidelined for the next couple of weeks at least. But Jamie McGrath has been their best player this term and the Irish international appeals at 9/2 with Paddy Power for anytime scorer.

Martin Boyle had a costly penalty miss for Hibs in midweek but remains their biggest threat. The Aussie cap has scored 16 times this term and is a tempting 12/5 at Paddy Power to net in Paisley.

Anything else catch the eye?

St Mirren have been misfiring of late but will fancy their chances against a Hibs defence missing two regulars. BTTS and over 2.5 goals has come up in the last two meetings so I'm backing a repeat here. Both teams to score pays 19/20 at SportNation while over 2.5 strikes is 6/5 with SBK.

Indiscipline has cost Hibs dear in recent games and there could be a few cards here with both teams desperate for the points. The bookies have yet to price up a total cards market but odds are available on individual players.

Veteran Darren McGregor should replace Hanlon at the back for Hibs and he's 15/4 with Bet365 to be carded. St Mirren midfielder Alan Power is always good value to fall foul of the ref and he's priced at 2/1 by the same firm.
