SC Freiburg vs Borussia Monchengladbach

BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH have seen their title hopes bite the dust but still have plenty to play for as they head to Freiburg looking to stay on track for a Champions League slot.
Gladbach went into the Bundesliga resumption with an outside chance of catching Bayern Munich but have since dropped five points while the leaders haven't put a foot wrong.
That has left them 11 points off the title pace but the fight for the three other Champions League slots is fascinating with just four points separating Dortmund, Leipzig, Gladbach and Leverkusen.
Only goal difference is keeping Monchengladbach ahead of Leverkusen in the final slot so they can't afford a slip-up in Freiburg. And boss Marco Rose will be hoping his side pick up where they left off last time out in a 4-1 thrashing of Union Berlin.
Freiburg also have plenty to play for, sitting just four points off a Europa League place, but need to improve on a poor run of form that has seen them go four games without a win.
They lost 1-0 at home to Leverkusen in their last match and need to up their game to take anything from another team with Champions League aspirations.
How the bookies view it
Freiburg's poor form has made them 7/2 outsiders with Betfair and that's not too surprising, especially with home wins hard to come by in the Bundesliga since fans have been locked out. Monchengladbach are a best 4/5 with Genting while the draw is 3/1 with most firms.
I fancy a win for Borussia but try doubling it with both teams to score at 23/10 with BetVictor as they have conceded in 10 of their last 11 games.
Recent head to head
This fixture has been evenly contested in recent seasons, with the last seven matches producing three wins apiece and one draw.
Freiburg's home record against Gladbach is excellent, going 11 games unbeaten since 2002 with 10 of those victories, but that was with a partisan crowd behind them.
It was 3-1 to Freiburg at the Schwarzwald-Stadion last season but Monchengladbach won 4-2 at home when the sides faced off earlier this season (below).
Players to watch
Marcus Thuram scored in that 4-2 win over Freiburg earlier in the season and has been in fine form since the Bundesliga resumption, netting four goals in as many games.
The Frenchman is 13/8 with Paddy Power to score in this one and that looks overpriced on his recent form. He's also 6/1 with William Hill to score a header if you want a bigger prize.
I flagged up Nils Petersen as Freiburg's biggest threat against Leverkusen only for the whole team to draw a blank. Boss Christian Streich (below) might make a few changes in a bid to end his side's slump.
Luca Waldschmidt came off the bench against Leverkusen and could be handed a start. The forward is 16/5 with Paddy Power for a goal and that could be worth a speculative punt.
Anything else catch the eye?
Both teams to score has come up in the last four meetings of these sides but it's sadly a best 4/6 with Bet365. Labrokes are offering 2/1 on Monchengladbach striker Thuram being offside at least once and having one shot or more on target which looks decent value.
Freiburg have only collected two yellow cards in the last four games so I like the look of Gladbach to pick up the first card at 6/4 with Paddy Power
