Juventus will be aiming to build on a fine win on the opening weekend as they travel to Sampdoria on Monday night in Serie A. Sampdoria have already been beaten in their own back yard this season and should be no match for a confident Juventus side.
Sampdoria barely just beat the drop last season, securing a 15th place finish following manager Marco Giampaolo’s arrival in January. They ended their campaign with two wins from their final nine Serie A matches.
Having lost Antonio Candreva and Mikkel Damsgaard in the summer, and seemingly dependent on 35-year-old Francesco Caputo, Sampdoria needed a massive squad boost. However, with Serbian midfielder Filip Djuricic the only significant arrival so far, they may be set for another difficult campaign.
Along with injuries to the likes of Manolo Gabbiadini and Andrea Conti, it is no surprise that Sampdoria lost 2-0 at home to Atalanta in their opening fixture. They were no match for the Bergamo club and could only manage a single attempt in target throughout the contest.
The task for Juventus this season will be to put up a much better title challenge than they have done in recent seasons. They began on a positive note, claiming a 3-0 home victory over Sassuolo in their opening fixture.
In contrast to Sampdoria, Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus rebuild appears to be going well as a number of new signings impressed in the opening fixture. Argentine midfielder Angel Di Maria even got a goal and an assist on his debut before going off injured with a knock.
Much will be dependent on Dusan Vlahovic this season and the manager will be pleased to see the Serbian striker off to a good start. He grabbed a well taken brace in the opening fixture and the Juventus faithful will be hoping he remains consistent.
How the bookies view it
The bookies have Juventus as overwhelming favourites with a victory priced 11/17 with SBK. An unlikely win for Sampdoria is valued at 5/1 by BetVictor while a draw is set at odds of 3/1 by Betfred.
Recent head to head
Recent meetings between Sampdoria and Juventus have been one-sided with the Turin club winning the last seven fixtures. The Old Lady did the double over Sampdoria last season, claiming a 3-1 victory in the clash at the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris.
Players to watch
Gleison Bremer impressed on his debut for Juventus, helping the Turin club to a clean sheet. He is expected to continue in central defence and will be confident of another shutout at 5/4 with William Hill.
At the other end of the pitch, Dusan Vlahovic will take plenty of confidence from his brace in the opening fixture. The striker also has five goals in four previous appearances against Sampdoria and is priced at 6/5 by bet365 to score anytime.
Anything else catch the eye?
Given Juventus’ solid defence and with Sampdoria unconvincing going forward, the Turin club could be tipped to earn a win to nil at 7/4 with BetVictor. Given the one-sided results in recent meetings, a -1 handicap for the visitors could also be considered at 17/10 with Unibet.
Juventus have scored in both halves in their last six meetings with Sampdoria and could be set for a repeat at 8/5 with Coral.
