Roma vs Torino

, KO: 20:00 , Stadio Olimpico
Torino

Roma begin their Coppa Italia campaign with a home clash against Torino on Tuesday, with a place in the quarter-finals against Inter Milan up for grabs.

The Yellow and Reds are nine-time winners of the competition and are searching for their first triumph since lifting the trophy in 2007–08.

Progressing past the round of 16 has rarely been an issue for Roma, who have done so in 14 of the last 17 campaigns, including runs to the final in 2009–10 and 2012–13, and they will draw inspiration from such precedents heading into Tuesday.

In terms of momentum, the Giallorossi have struggled to put together sustained winning runs since claiming four victories on the bounce in November, though Gian Piero Gasperini’s side arrive for this clash on the back of consecutive wins.

After losing their first outing of 2026 against Atalanta, Roma have responded by beating Lecce before taking full spoils against Sassuolo at the weekend, leaving the capital club firmly in the European places.

Torino, meanwhile, began the new year on a positive note with a victory over Verona but have since suffered back-to-back defeats against Udinese and Atalanta to remain in the bottom half of the table.

Tuesday’s Coppa Italia tie offers Marco Baroni’s side a chance for respite, and they will look to pick up where they left off after victories over Modena and Pisa in the earlier rounds.

However, Toro have history to contend with, having reached the quarter-finals just five times since lifting their fifth and most recent Italian Cup in 1992–93.

How the bookies view it: Giallorossi favourites by some margin?

The bookmakers have installed Roma as clear favourites for this encounter, with an outright win in regulation time priced at 8/5 on Ladbrokes, which is more than four times the price of a Torino victory at 11/2, while a draw is available at 3/1.

Head-to-head: Roma dominance despite recent setback

Torino ran out 1–0 winners when the sides last met in Serie A back in September, though Roma have generally held the upper hand in this fixture, winning six of the last nine meetings (D2).

Players to watch: Matias Soule full of beans?

Matias Soule has been one of Roma’s standout performers this season, scoring seven goals and providing six assists across all competitions, and he will head into Tuesday’s clash full of confidence after finding the net and setting up another in Saturday’s win over Sassuolo.

Meanwhile, Giovanni Simeone struck the winner for Torino in September’s meeting with Roma and will be looking to trouble the hosts once again, despite managing just one goal in his last six appearances.

Probable lineups

Evan Ferguson was forced off during Roma’s victory over Sassuolo, casting doubt over his availability, while Artem Dovbyk, Leon Bailey and Lorenzo Pellegrini remain sidelined through injury.

Meanwhile, Neil El Aynaoui is still away at the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco, while Evan Ndicka is due to return following Ivory Coast’s elimination but may not be rushed back into action.

Adam Masina also remains away with Morocco and will not feature for Torino, while Ivan Ilic, Marcus Pedersen and Perr Schuurs are sidelined with injuries.

Roma: Svilar; Mancini, Ziolkowski, Ghilardi; Rensch, Cristante, Pisilli, Tsimikas; Soule, El Shaarawy; Ferguson

Torino: Israel; Tameze, Maripan, Coco; Aboukhlal, Anjorin, Ilkhan, Vlasic, Biraghi; Njie, Simeone

Anything else that catches the eye?

Notably, none of Roma’s 26 matches across all competitions this season have ended in a draw, while only two have produced more than three goals, making the 7/10 on Betano for either side to win and under 3.5 goals appealing.

Furthermore, no more than one team has found the net in Roma’s last three matches, while the same has occurred in three of Torino’s last five outings, and with the last three meetings between these sides also supporting that trend, the 4/6 on Ladbrokes for both teams not to score stands out.
