Real Madrid vs Barcelona

, KO: 20:00 Mar 20, 2022, Estadio Santiago Bernabeu
Barcelona

Resurgent Barcelona will attempt to put a slight dent in Real Madrid’s title march when they travel to the Santiago Bernabeu for the third instalment of El Clasico this season. While the Catalans have undoubtedly turned a corner in recent weeks, Madrid appear to be playing at a higher level and should have the upper hand here.

Real Madrid have been a level above everyone else in Spain and are deservedly setting the pace in La Liga. They are 10 points clear at the top and look well on course for a successful title run.

Los Blancos have hit a different gear in recent weeks and have made light work of their opponents. They have won their last five matches across all competitions and triumphed 3-0 at Mallorca in their previous La Liga fixture with Karim Benzema netting a brace.

The Santiago Bernabeu has been a fortress for Real Madrid, who are unbeaten at home this season. Carlo Ancelotti’s men eased to a 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad in their previous fixture in front of their fans.

Sitting third, Barcelona have turned a corner under manager Xavi and will be relishing the prospect of getting one over their rivals. While a late title charge seems a bit farfetched, they can move to within two points of second placed Sevilla if results go their way this weekend.

Ferran Torres and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang have been pivotal to Barcelona’s resurgence and were on target in the 4-0 win over Osasuna in their previous La Liga fixture. They followed that up with a 2-1 victory at Galatasaray on Thursday to reach the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Barcelona have also impressed on their recent travels and are unbeaten in their last 10 away matches. However, they were frustrated in a recent fixture at Espanyol and needed a late equaliser to salvage a point in a 2-2 draw.

How the bookies view it

Real Madrid are considered overwhelming favourites among the bookies with a home win priced at 22/19 by SBK. A victory for Barcelona is valued at 9/4 by William Hill while a draw is set at odds of 11/4 with Betfred.

Recent head to head

Real Madrid have the upper hand in recent matches with Barcelona and have won the last five meetings. Los Blancos have already beaten their rivals twice this season, knocking them out of the Copa Del Rey and also claimed a 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture in October.

Players to watch

La Liga top scorer Karim Benzema missed training this week following a knock at Mallorca but is still expected to feature on Sunday and is priced at 11/10 by Paddy Power to score. If the French striker misses out, Vinicius Junior should carry the attacking threat and is priced at 11/5 by Unibet in the same market.

Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang has been in fine form for Barcelona since joining in January and could be worth keeping an eye on. The striker had five goals in six La Liga appearances for the Catalans and is priced at 2/1 by Unibet to score anytime.

Anything else catch the eye?

The Copa Del Rey clash produced over 3.5 goals and a repeat is priced at 28/17 by Sport Nation while over 2.5 goals is valued at 13/19 by SBK. Both teams were on target in the second half in that fixture and could be set for a repeat at 15/8 with Betfair.

Real Madrid scored in both halves in their previous home fixture and could be set for a repeat at 15/8 with Betfair.
