After losing the first edition of Derby della Madonnina last weekend and then their midweek Champions League fixture, Inter Milan can’t afford more missteps when they travel to meet relegation-threatened Pisa.
The Towers achieved their first win of the new campaign right before the international break, which sent them above the relegation zone for the first time this season. Pisa somehow find ways not to lose, but their seven draws have kept them in and close to the danger zone.
Despite having the 4th weakest attack and 6th worst defence in Serie A, there is a reason for some positive thoughts. Pisa are now on a streak of six games without defeat, which is close to their all-time unbeaten record in the elite (8). But the lack of goals is not helping and they have to survive yet another title contender in Inter Milan.
The Nerazzurri suffered back-to-back defeats, denting their ambitions to win the Scudetto, as they are now 4th in the standings. Midweek’s 2-1 loss to Atletico Madrid was even more unfortunate, as the Rojiblancos scored the winner in the 93rd minute.
Cristian Chivu will expect a better performance from his players, and the fact Inter won both times against newly-promoted teams this season should boost their confidence.
How the bookies view it: Inter to remain within reach of the top
Bookmakers expect a completely one-sided affair, despite Pisa’s recent achievements against top teams. You can currently back Inter Milan at just 3/10, while Pisa are available at 7/1. And after the Towers’ five draws in recent weeks, you can also back a new one at 19/4.
Recent head-to-head: Inter dominated 34 years ago
Pisa’s last appearance in Serie A was in 1991, which means they haven’t faced Inter Milan in 34 years. If you care about the old results, the Nerazzurri won the last five meetings in the 80s and 90s.
In recent years, the teams met twice in friendlies – Inter won 7-1 in 2020 and the latest from 2024 ended level (1-1).
Players to watch: Calhanoglu loves an away game
One of the reasons for Inter's losses this season is the lack of a top-form striker. The team has incredible players, but none of them are showing their full potential, which makes it difficult to choose a player to bet on.
Our best suggestion is Hakan Calhanoglu, mainly because he has played his best games away from home this season. Three of his five goals so far have been in away games.
Probable line-ups
Pisa: Semper, Caracciolo, Calabresi, Canestrelli, Angori, Vural, Aebischer, Tramoni, Toure, Nzola, Moreo
Inter Milan: Sommer, Bisseck, Akanji, Bastoni, Henrique, Zielinski, Calhanoglu, Susic, Augusto, Bonny, Martinez
Anything else catch the eye?
While Pisa boast one of the worst defences in the league overall, 14 of the 16 goals they conceded came in away games. At home, Pisa have the most peculiar stats, with a 1:2 goal difference across six games.
Obviously, neither of those six games featured more than two goals and we do not expect too much in this match. Pisa will be defending for 90 minutes and while Inter should win, we don’t expect more than 2-0.
Therefore, we believe a clean sheet for the Nerazzurri to be one of the best betting options in this match. This, and Inter to win & Under 3.5 goals, as we believe the bookies were incredibly generous with the odds.
