Lille and Sevilla go in search of their first win in this year’s UEFA Champions League as they clash in a Group G fixture at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. Neither team has particularly looked good this season but Sevilla have fared a little better in the competition in recent years and should have enough experience to get past their French counterparts.
Lille are coming off a 2-1 defeat to RB Salzburg in their previous Champions League fixture. After going two goals down, Burak Yilmaz pulled one back in the second half.
It has been an erratic campaign for Lille, who have struggled to capture last season’s consistency. Jocelyn Gourvennec’s men head into Wednesday’s clash with two defeats in their last three matches and were beaten 1-0 by Clermont in a Ligue 1 fixture last Saturday.
Lille have a poor record in the Champions League and have never progressed beyond the group stage. They have lost their last 11 matches in the competition, a run stretching back to the 2014/15 season.
Sevilla are still unbeaten in this year’s Champions League, although both their matches have ended in draws. They began with a 1-1 draw with Wolfsburg before earning a similar result against Salzburg in their previous fixture with Ivan Rakitic's late penalty earning them a point.
Manager Julen Lopetegui will be pleased with his team’s start to the season having suffered just one defeat across all competitions. They travel to Lille off the back of a 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo in La Liga last Saturday with Rafa Mir getting the goal.
Sevilla have built a decent reputation in the Champions League in recent years and reached the knockout phase in last year’s competition. They also have a solid record on the road and are unbeaten in their last eight away matches in the competition.

There have been only three previous matches between Lille and Sevilla with the French side holding a 2-1 edge. The most recent meeting was a clash in the 2005/06 Europa League which Sevilla won 2-0.
Players to watch
Jonathan David has six goals for Lille this season, although he is still seeking his first in the Champions League. The Canadian forward could be worth keeping an eye on to score anytime at 33/10 with SBK.
As always, Sevilla will look to Youssef En-Nesyri to provide the spark in attack having already got off the mark in the Champions League. SBK is offering 11/8 on the Moroccan striker to score anytime.
